I've been trying to chart my BBT with a normal thermometer (My mothers idea, apparently it makes no difference <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll">) and it didn't work too well, so before April I'm going to either get a BBT thermometer or OPK, which would you recommend? I'd like to get a fair idea of when I ovulate so when I decide on a donor I'll have a general idea of when he can fly here and inseminate.

I would chose a BBT. If you have a few months to observe, I think the temp shift will give you a good idea of when to expect O. But then again, in my personal experience OPK's didn't work well for me. I would deffinately watch your temps. But maybe get the OPK's the month before and the month of insemination, and that way you will know for sure when to go for it. Allthough you will probably know your other fertility signs well by then. GL!!

Me 2. BBT can show you a pattern after a few months and it will verify o (after the temp rise). OPKs give you a bit of a heads up to BD before you o.

I would get a BBT too. I personally didn't have much luck with the OPK's and my doctor recommended I get a Fertility Monitor. I found one on craigslist and this is just my first month of using it but I like it better than the OPK. It is expensive though.
