I got my copy of Nourishing Traditions for $15 from amazon.com and it is so worth it! You might try your library as well.
Some basic tips I have gleaned:
be off the pill for at least 6 months
both partners need to take cod liver oil daily for 6+ months
both partners should be eating diets high in butterfat and animal fat(preferably from pasture fed animals) for 6+ months
Diet should also be high in enzyme rich raw foods(lactofermented) and one should strive for 50/50 raw/cooked

We are TTC and I found this a few months ago and have used it as a guide:
http://www.westonaprice.org/children...ormothers.html

Diet for Pregnant and Nursing Mothers
Cod Liver Oil to supply 20,000 IU vitamin A and 2000 IU vitamin D per day

2 8-ounce glasses whole milk daily, preferably raw and from pasture-fed cows (learn more about raw milk on our website, A Campaign for Real Milk, www.realmilk.com)

4 tablespoons butter daily, preferably from pasture-fed cows

2 or more eggs daily, preferably from pastured chickens

Additional egg yolks daily, added to smoothies, salad dressings, scrambled eggs, etc.

3-4 ounces fresh liver, once or twice per week (If you have been told to avoid liver for fear of getting "too much Vitamin A," be sure to read Vitamin A Saga)

Fresh seafood, 2-4 times per week, particularly wild salmon, shellfish and fish eggs

Fresh beef or lamb daily, always consumed with the fat

Oily fish or lard daily, for vitamin D

2 tablespoons coconut oil daily, used in cooking or smoothies, etc.

Lacto-fermented condiments and beverages

Bone broths used in soups, stews and sauces

Soaked whole grains

Fresh vegetables and fruits

AVOID:

Trans fatty acids (e.g., hydrogenated oils)
Junk foods
Commercial fried foods
Sugar
White flour
Soft drinks
Caffeine
Alcohol
Cigarettes
Drugs (even prescription drugs)

You have to prepare for TTC 6 months in advance?? I thought we were doing good with 3 months of CLO before TTC.
Bummer.

Ah, so glad someone started this as I was thinking of it. That diet for pregnant and nursing mothers cracks me up because I would be sick if I ate ALL the daily suggestions - esp. 4 tbls of butter. I am doing a lot of it though. I never saw the rec. for both parents to consume CLO and nutrient dense animal foods for 6 months before TTC. I'm glad that we've been doing that for quite a while. I've also been eating a whole pound of bison liver each week in addition to everything else in order to increase vitamin A stores in my liver. Is anyone looking into detox before ttc?

Me...sort of since I'm still nursing. I've done a couple of sessions of colon hydrotherapy and will probably do a couple more. I'm thinking about doing the "Coconut Cures" parasite cleanse (involves eating a whole lot of dried coconut) since I can't do an herbal one while nursing, and I might also try to do a 3 day fast as laid out in the "Coconut Cures" book (only eating 10-12 Tbsp a day of coconut oil, plus some lemonade sweetened with stevia or maple syrup).

I've never heard of that parasite cleanse, but it sounds easier to swallow than the one I did. More power to you if you can eat 10-12 TBSP of EVCO a day
! Let me know what results you have.

Thanks for that great information! I read just the other day that coconut is effective for expelling parasites, but this book only mentioned tapeworms. You would probably know if you had a tapeworm... do you know whether the coconut thing is good for any other kind of parasites? Is all this information contained in the Coconut Cure book? But oh man... I get really nauseous if I swallow coconut oil straight. Bleh!!

What does the 3-day fast do for you?
