Teething is horrendous right now and the infant motrin isn't doing squat. The teething saliva is making the reflux horrible, so we have one unhappy little dude at home. I am contemplating using orajel, as hylands and camamilla aren't doing anything either. Thoughts?

have you ever put that stuff in your own mouth? i did when DD1 was teething like mad (i have a habit of trying things before i give them to my kids to see how they taste and such), and it made my tongue very weirdly and uncomfortably numb - like after you have a filling. i think it would actually make the salivating worse, not better (at least i drooled like a fool
). so i've never thought of using it on my kids after that.

teething does really suck. hopefully you'll both have some relief from it soon!

I used Orajel on my daughter sometimes when she was teething
. I used the swabs so it didn't get all over her mouth but rather right on the spot it was intended for. Seemed to do the trick.

I was going to try and go more natural with my son, but really wished I had some Orajel on hand when he was going through teething hell recently. He made my daughter's teething experience look like a breeze. He was really pitiful
. I might order some for next time.

I tried the Oragel too. Never. again.

cold works for DS2, warmth worked for DS1. Try a combo of hylands and ibuprophen? Teething bisquits. I got the Healthy Times Maple biscuits for teethers. Wheat soy, and dairy free. They make a mess, but they do help!

I tried the baby orajel on ds once and he screamed even louder for a few minutes. Then I tasted it, YUCK!!!! and it made my mouth all weird and numb and stuff. Not fun. Never again.
My ped told me to peel a carrot and freeze it and give that to him. He loves it and it doesn't make a mess or anything. We still don't have any teeth that have popped through yet though.....

My ped. said Orajel and similar products are bad because they numb their gag reflex so they may choke =( Not to mention they only work for a few minutes. I hate them myself, so I wouldn't use them.

Motrin didn't do squat for pain for us - we used Tylenol. I used a minute amount of orajel right on the spot (like a pinhead) until the Tylenol kicked in - it worked well. We only used it at night fwiw. Also try a amber teething necklace - it really works for day!
