Well, dd's lip tie was not dealt with when she was a newborn, and now I'm reading (on MDC) that it can cause breastfeeding cavities in toddlers. Ds had all four of his front teeth removed due to tooth decay and has tons of other cavities, and dd, who is 13 months, has already started to have bad breath so I'm thinking she could have decay already. Does anyone know of a good oral surgeon who deals with lip ties in babies in the Seattle area? I'd prefer if the doc took United Healthcare although I do have out of network benefits, bad as they are.

Maryann O'Hara (sp) works at a breastfeeding clinic in Seattle and clips ties. I know she does tongue ties, and I'm almost certain she does labial ties as well. I posted her contact info on another thread a while back... let me see if I can find it.

Here it is: http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/1004254/tongue-tie-question/320#post_13920863 (Hopefully this info is still good- we saw her a couple years ago.)

eta: I know you said you were looking for an oral surgeon, but depending on how thick the tie is, it might not actually require surgery. DD's tongue tie was clipped at that age in office with just a snip.

Dr. O'Hara is the one who clipped her tongue but I think that her lip tie is rather severe, and anyway I've been having trouble getting in touch with MaryAnn O'Hara.

I don't know if he does lip tie, bt Dr. Pinczower in Bellevue clipped Elise's tongue when she was a baby, and I really liked him. He was out of network for us (Premera), but they helped us with the claim.

Yes, check out Dr. MaryAnn O'Hara and Isabella Knox in the Seattle area. They both should be able to treat labial ties.
