Apology issued to girls from Trimet

Quote:
The girls, both 14, said the driver called them "sickos" after a female passenger complained about their kiss. The driver then stopped the bus along the street and forced them off.

I remember when I was a teen, kids getting kicked off the bus to Jones Beach for making out on the bus. "Do it in the bedroom, not on my bus." Can hear the driver's voice, even. More than a few times.

I mean, yeah, it was 30+ years ago, but it's not something that's never happened before.

Am amused that the families are considering suing.

Am sure I'll be informed as to how I'm looking at this the wrong way.

The 64-year-old driver also violated company policy that requires operators to call for assistance before removing any minors, TriMet said in a statement.
That's a good policy. Only works if they follow it, of course.

Amy, it's hard to say. Not seeing the kiss. Not knowing if it was the kind of small kiss that wouldn't get a second look from a mixed gender couple or if they were engaging in the kind of tonsil hockey that makes everyone want to throw a bucket of cold water on them makes it hard. But in general I tend to assume the worst.

I wish I had known about that policy when I saw a driver trying to force a woman off the bus because her baby was crying. (It was a racially-charged interaction, surprise surprise.)

I ride trimet daily and let me assure you, het couples get away with quite a bit of PDAs without so much as a blink. I've seen middle school kids sucking face and actually making a loud slurpy noise ( :puke ) and NEVER seen a driver try to kick them off.

Yeah, it's tough to say much because we didn't see the kiss in person and they don't go into what kind of a kiss it was. Having been on the bus many times over the years I can tell you that there's been some pretty intense PDA's between hetero folks often enough.

I'm totally cool with kissing, hugging, hand holding and general canoodling in public. I don't really want to see a full on make out, tongue swapping session between people of any gender. So if the girls were going there I can see how that would make folks uncomfortable...but I'm not sure that's what was happening here & even if it was I don't care for the ditching them on the side of the road thing. I'd like more info than the article gives, but it sounds like they had a case of "ewwww lesbians".

Trimet and IHOP need a seminar or a removal of head from rear it seems.
