I am looking for suggestions for any organic restaurant in and around Atlanta. My MIL is visiting for the week and my dh and I want to get out for some time alone. Dh is VERY picky and we rarely eat out, so I am not familar with the restaurants here. TIA!

(ETA: price doesn't matter)

I don't know any "organic" restaurants. I know a few places that organic items on their menu.

One of my favorites is the Woodfire Grill on Cheshire Bridge Road - just off of Piedmont. The chef is into "slow food" and using local ingredients. We went last summer to the Tomato night - a five course meal of heirloom tomatoes. It was wonderful. I believe all the tomatoes came from local organic farmers.

Another place that isn't as pricey is R.Thomas Grill. It's a lot more casual. They have lots of fresh fruit smoothies and vegan options. It's on Peachtree just north of midtown.

There's always Sunflower Cafe on Roswell Road, although I admit that I am easily frightened by highways and leaving my suburban hometown comfort zone. We have a couple of wonderful restaurants in Roswell that may fit the bill-- Fung's Vegetarian Chinese on Highway 92/Woodstock Road and Thai Vegetarian on Plum Street in downtown Historic Roswell. My boss and I tried Thai Vegetarian for lunch yesterday and were completely blown away-- their cocoanut soup is to die for, their spring rolls are amazing and the combo of perfectly sauteed tofu, brown rice and a variety of bright organic veggies in the main dish was delightful.

I'm sure someone can better chime in with stuff closer to the city... so good luck finding the right place and enjoying your night out!

I highly recommend Floataway Cafe. The owner/chefs also run Bacchanalia and use locally grown organic produce much of it from their own gardens. Bacchanalia is great if you're looking for upscale. Floataway is a similar menu but more casual. Both places will do creative off-menu vegetarian items on request. Check out the menus here: http://www.starprovisions.com/

Here's an article about them: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/print_doc.cfm?doc_id=225

There are also two great destination type restaurants in Athens (we drive an hour to get there) that aren't necessarily organic, but use local, fresh ingredients.

Five and Ten http://fiveandten.com/
Farm 255 http://www.farm255.com/

When did Farm 255 open? There was a number of bars at that address during my 13 years of Athens living, but I didn't know about that restaurant. We moved to Alpharetta in August of 2004.

So, Thai Vegetarian is good? I'll be making my way down there soon. I miss Thai of Athens so much that it's killing me. That and Bluebird Cafe.

I was going to suggest R Thomas Deluxe Grill also.

Lisa, have you tried Ubon Thai in the Ingles shopping center on Hwy. 9? We adore it and lots of veggie options. They even make the soups veggie and add meats to them when people order it. Mmmm-coconut soup with tofu is delicious! They have really cool kids meals, but they're pricy. They have coupons in those coupons magazines that come in your mail sometimes. Lunch is the best deal there-soup, spring roll (also veggie versions) and your entree with rice for $5.95.
