I just can't get this to fit my son. He is 7mo and roughly 18lbs. When I put a 27x27 flat with the origami fold, the rise is just simply too short. Not good for a boy LOL! Am I the only one?

I'm almost in the same boat - if I put it on just right, the rise is just long enough for Ian, but soon it won't be, and I want to keep using my flats b/c I really like them.

So...any suggestions from the flats gurus? Paging Judy Bean...Tiskin...Jesse...and all the other flats experts out there in diaperland!

I had to switch to the kite or prefold fold at that time. You will probably have to fold two flats together for it to be absorbant enough.

: I'd use the Kite fold, with maybe a doubler or another flat folded as a doubler. For overnight, an infant prefold tri-folded works well too. Or, you could size up? Maybe a few 30" or 36" squares to have around when you want to use the Origami?

The kite fold can be nearly as trim, but gives a little more padding in front- just pop an extra layer inside.

I'm no expert, but I use two flats folded together for my DS (18 mos) - for the origami fold I lay one on top of the other but overlap by 3" or so at the top, then fold. This makes the rise higher when using 27 x 27" flats (they're not 27" after washed, more like 23-24"). I've just ordered a few 30 x 30 flats which should fit better. Or, like others said, you could switch to the kite fold and use a doubler.

Yea, we switched over to the kite fold, and usually take a second flat (or infant pf) and fold it up as a doubler inside. The rise is perfect for my 18 month, 23lb ds in the kite fold. The "neat nappy" fold might work too ... WeeBees has a link for the neat nappy fold on their flat diapers page.

Scroll down towards the bottom of this page for how-to on making the rise longer: http://www.gumbush.com/flats_origami.htm

If you use a snappi, be careful as this makes the snappid area thinner... You'll either want to fold the corners in before fastening to double up the thickness or use two flats stacked.
