dh was so nice
: to leave the dog out tonight...and then let her in AFTER she got sprayed by the family of skunks that wanders the neighborhood.

Its bad...really bad. And she only came into the mud room and part way into the kitchen before I started screaming to put her back out. And he's done this once before in our old house, where the dog went through the entire house!!

Thankfully my folks live next door and took ds and I in for a few hours - but, ds wanted to come home...I've had candles lit for HOURS...I stink, ds stinks, but DH stinks the most since he had to scrub her down. I really hope he doesnt have any meetings tomorrow!! but then again, he was the one who left her outside in the dark.
:

Suggestions? The dog had a nice dawn, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide bath followed by a vinegar rinse. I dont know what to do for the house? The mudroom mats are outside, and there really is no rugs or anything that she touched, its just in the house.

The dog is spending the night in the mudroom, which has a door to close it off from the rest of the house. Sad, but, its better than the basement or garage.

I would spray down the floors and walls (if it won't hurt them) with vinegar water and just let it dry. Vinegar is amazing at getting rid of odors. And of course, what you're already doing, light lots of candles, open windows, etc.

I second the tomato juice. I have also heard that if you douche him (not kidding) that helps too.

DH's dog got sprayed years ago and my MIL was in the store with a carriage full of massengil. As a joke my FIL said loudly "Lady, you have a PROBLEM!" so everyone could hear....

Blah! We had the same problem not so long ago. There is a product sold at pet stores called "skunk off" -- truly a miracle product. I think it supposedly has some sort of enzyme that "deactivates" the skunk smell. Don't know how it works, but it's great because you just rub it into your dog's coat and don't have to fully bathe them (we have a really puffy dog so this was a big plus).

Of course, when our dog got sprayed she immediately rubbed against furniture, beds, etc. At least it's summer time and you can open the windows!

Good luck! I've also heard that douche works well and that everyone I know who's tried it has stories about emptying the shelves at the store and getting funny looks.

My SIL used Listerine soak (get the generic yellow stuff) tehn several baths with Dr Bronners Peppermint soap liquid.. she said it worked really well (she had done the Dawn, peroxide and baking soda 1st tho)

I guess it's worth trying.. good luck

I wonder if you could use bio-kleen bac-out. I was just asking about it over on the diapering board and the mamas there love it and say they use it for lots more than just stinky dipes...pet smells in carpet etc.

Maisie, You crack me up about the douche thing. I don;t think my dog would ever stand for that, but I'd probably try if I had the same problem!

Yup, I bought 3 multi packs last night and used one in the shower today. Thankfully, with the vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide...and the smell of me, the lady working the counter said "stinky dog, eh?".

I know it's probably pretty weak compared to some of the other things listed, but I made it through morning sickness by frequently doing a sage smudge. The smoke clinging to things rather than just the candle scent seemed to work better.

WAHHHH!!! The story gets worse!!

The skunk must have sprayed right next to my car!! It smells soooo bad in there!! I have it all opened up, and am going to take it to the car wash after I pick up ds from school (yeah the strike is over!!). The outside deck (small, and right next to the driveway) stinks really bad -so bad I cant open the windows or the door to the mud room.

Dr.Bronners and Bac-out...I have both, but didn't even think of it!!

Someone else told me coffee grind soak up odors - I might try to sprinkle some in the yard.

FWIW, douche is basically just water and vinegar. You can drink it even (though it would taste like vinegar). So, save yourself some money and just use vinegar.

Yup, except I bought out the gallons last night from one store
: and didn't have the heart to buy smaller ones. Plus, the glass bottles in the shower scare me. That's mainly why I bought the douche was for us in the shower.
