CPMs in my area who aren't currently working as midwives seem to gravitate toward women's health eduation/counseling. I know of several who have worked for Planned Parenthood in that area. One friend got a job as a nighttime staffer at a home for teenaged girls. I have seen a few go back for school for degrees in public health.

There are lots of independent business-y things that can be done in addition to midwifery with a CPM. I opened a small midwifery school. Others do birth or postpartum doula work.
Could also do childbirth education classes, newborn classes, nutritional counseling for pregnant moms, breastfeeding consultant ... there's probably a bunch more depending on the training and expertise of the midwife
