So, I'm crying. An essay that I thought was funny, witty, told a good story, and had a really strong parent/child relationship in it was just very nicely rejected by Brain, Child.

She recommended FamilyFun (which has rejected other stuff of mine) but it's too mainstream for this essay, I think.

I just need a safe place to vent. I was REALLY hoping they'd take this, and now it hurts.

:cry

Yes, I know--dust it off and try elsewhere. I know the intellectuals of it--I'm just emotional right now. Can I get some fellow writer hugs?

Sniff sniff.

Thank you, cathe.

I'm plowing through a travel piece that's due tomorrow, all about Fall Foliage in New England. I keep comforting myself with all the other writing successes, but it still hurts.

I hear ya! I just got a rejection from them too. Don't they write the nicest rejections?
I'm also trying to figure where to go next with it. It does feel like quite a setback even though I have had some other successes this week.
Anyway, hugs to you.

It's a bummer, isn't it. I feel like they are rejecting ME when it happens, even though I know that's not true. I hope you can get it published elsewhere.

zealsmom, you too? I was hoping both of us would get, or that you'd get in when I got my rejection. Sigh.

EFmom, thanks. I'll work on finding a home for it...

Did they offer any insight about what would make it more their style, or specifics on what made it not their style? While you might not rework the article, it might help you when dealing with some topic in the future...?

Yes, they did. And it wasn't a style or writing problem--it was more that the tone didn't fit their needs (she was specific, but I won't go into detail). They're both writers (the eds) so they're great with rejections.

I'm feeling better today--finished my travel piece and now I'M the editor (see my post on buying reprints from folks).

I've gotten two rejections from them this year, somehow for me the personal rejections are almost worse!
