And we are so in love! We brought home two yearling Nubian does yesterday. Both of them are pregnant; one is due pretty soon (in the next few weeks), and the other is due not until June or maybe even July. They are beautiful and so, so sweet. Very mellow, and great with the (human) kids. I expected them to be more skittish or to need time to warm up to us. I love how they move their ears all the time, so full of expression!

Thanks!

We are planning to milk them, assuming all goes well. We're going to do the "wait two weeks, and then separate the kids at night and milk in the morning" plan. I'm a little anxious about all of the milk-bucket washing routines I've been reading about. And also the fact that this will be the first freshening for both does and I don't know how they'll take to it. Hoping for the best! They are very friendly, so I think that's on our side.

Always looking for any suggestions/advice from other goat keepers!

Very nice! BTW I just wash my bucket with hot water and dish soap or run them through the dishwasher. Our milk tastes fine. I feed it to my baby. Not that going through the professional cleaning job is bad; just wanted to share that you CAN just wash the buckets like normal. Milking a first freshener can be more difficult, but it can be done. I milked one last year. It was hard on my hands for about a week, and then it got better.

I just run everything through the dishwasher, but if you don't have one of those, then just soap and water is good with a tiny splash of bleach for good measure.

fiascofarm.com has tons o' info. Enjoy your goats!
