My birthing time began on Tuesday, July 12, at about 10 p.m. We had been to the midwife earlier that day, but here in Denmark, they don't do routine internal examinations so I had no idea that I was so close.
We had our homebirth just as we planned it. In the end, I ended up getting out of the pool, because it was too relaxing for me, every time I went in, everything really slowed down. It took almost 17 hours start to finish, and with two midwife shift changes, but the second midwife, the one who helped with the actual birthing, turned out to be one that we had considered hiring privately. We had her card on our bulletin board from earlier in the pregnancy, but had decided to go through the (free) state midwife system instead. How amazing that she was the one who turned out to be there for us

Although it was a long birth, it was beautiful. I slept between the pressure waves all through the night, and don't remember much of it at all. My husband was an amazing birth partner, and is an amazing father now)
Leo is so calm and relaxed! I love him so much! My milk came in yesterday and I'm in a bit of pain (ok so not a bit... it's excruciating!!!), as my breasts are engorged and about one and a half times their normal size. Not so bad, until you realize that I was an i cup to start with!!! When nursing, Leo's head is about a third of the size of my boob! Other than that, we are all great)
