Lets see...

1. do you like living in boston? did you grow up there? if not, where did you grow up?
I do LOVE living around here, I have a hard time living elsewhere because I've gotten so used to the ocean being right there. Boston is a great city, you just have to know where to look. I really don't like bigger city's (like NYC or LA - they are too urban, and I just feel so, uhm, dirty after being in them...)I did grow up here, actually in the house right next door - we just bought my pseudo grandparents house back in December. I'm not right in the city, but just over city lines. I'm actually in Quincy. I don't think I've been there - but, we do have a kick @ ice cream place right up the street that makes the best seltzer as well!

2. tell us about your tattoos!!
We'll, I've got one on my back that I'll post a picture of later, it is a design off of the back of a childhood chair - you know, like a wooden dining room chair, I've got a smaller one in a spot where the sun doesn't shine...And, I've got plans for at least 2 more, but I'm still trying to perfect them!

3. if you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?
If I could be anywhere, it would def be St. John, USVI. We came close to moving there 5 years ago, and I'm still kicking myself for not just doing it...but, we found out we were preg, and it looked like it was sticking, and we both wanted family close by. We go (or try to go) every year. This year we had plans to go in the fall, but, it's cutting it too close with the baby and all. Maybe in the spring!

Tell us how you met your dh and how long you've been married?
We have been married for almost 6 years. In Oct, right after Sept 11th. We met while working at Children's Hospital in Boston, I was actually taking his position as he was moving onto a different hospital. We worked together for about 3 weeks or so...and as fate would have it, got together soon after.

What do you like to do for fun/hobby?
Hmm, I love to go down to the beach close to my house and just sit with DS and dig, I also love to read (although haven't been doing much besides baby name books lately! DH and I hike alot, although we haven't been out yet this year. This will be the first year with DS doing all walking, and not half ergo/half walking. I'm hoping it goes well! I'm trying to get back into knitting...thanks to a great neighbor I have! I really never was taught how to do more than knit in the round...so, I'm loving some instructions on how to do more!! But, my dorkiest hobby is cross-stitching! I love to make wedding thingies, or funky things to make people smile.

Have you ever permed/straightened/colored your hair?
Oh gosh, my mom MADE me get a perm when I was in like 6th grade...I have such stick straight, thick hair - it looked horrendous!! I looked like a poodle for about a week, then the perm fell out, and I still smelled like that crap. Nasty. What a memory! In high school, my hair could be any rainbow of colors, I was a big manic panic user.

Do you do anything else to pamper yourself? Waxes, bubble baths, massages, manicures, pedicures,etc...???
DH and I go for a massage once a month at our chiropractors office, its heaven. We are going on Friday and I can't wait!! Recently I started going to a weekly student acupressure clinic (aka CHEAP) and have fallen in love. A girl I work with waxes my brows for me as needed, and I love bubble baths!! I've only once gotten a manicure and pedicure...and was thinking about going to have a pedicure done soon. My toes are really looking bad. I've never been too into girly things like that, I just cut the nails and dont think about them again. : But, I'd love someone to just be touching my feet now...

Do you have any summer vacation plans?
We go away alot - my folks have a place in NH that they are kind enough to let us come up, uhm, like every other weekend or so. Its on a nice lake with a beach, lots of local trails to hike, etc. But, our big plans this year are to go to Chicago for the LLL conference!! I'm thrilled, it'll be my first international conference - our group raised a bunch of money and had a huge donation from a thankful mama. DH and DS are going also, and have plans to see a Cubs game, and do some other local fun stuff - any suggestions??? We are going a few days early and staying a few days after the conference to explore and make it more of a vacation.

Do you have any baby names picked out yet?
Yes, if its a boy!! Most likely Henry Tate. I've been in love with that name since we started trying for another baby. But, I'm not getting boy vibes at all! And we can't find a girls name at all that we like or don't have a relative that has already used it. Right now it's probably Claire, Nora or Amelia. I really want something older, and that goes with Sam. The middle name is probably going to be Isis.

If you could live anywhere in the world for 6 months to a year where would you like to live and why?
Def St. John. I love the HOT weather (although, I'm starting to rethink that after last week and being pregnant. I love the ocean, the fruit/veggies, the people. I can't even put it into words..but, I just feel like I belong there!!

Do you speak any foreign languages?
I took Spanish in high school, and some latin in college... but never retained any of it sadly. And now I have a son that had some speech issues (delay now articulation disorder) so I'm going to say that I speak Sam's language. Lots of letter replacements for omitted or replace sounds. He still gets therapy at school and we've been going to a Boston Hospital for about 2 years, and will be *graduating* soon!! We did sign quite a bit to help keep down his frustration of not being able to communicate.
What's your favorite food?
Mmm, lets see...food. Not the best topic lately, I've lost taste for alot of things as the don't taste the same second time around If I was feeling better, I'd love some brown cow maple yogart. YUM, yum. And Indian food, we have the BEST place right down the street from us now (I knew there was another benefit to moving next to my folks...we are having an Everyone Love Raymond episode night here ) I really eat anything...as long as it's cooked for me. It just tastes so much better. My IL's are in VT, and there is this bar in Montpelier that makes the best burgers, marinaded in beer - I don't eat red meat that often, but, something about these burgers are HEAVENLY. With blue cheese and fried onions. Takes all the tension away from dealing with the IL's - but that's another story!!

Do you like to cook? Are you good at it?
I do like to cook, but, it's all relative to where I'm at. My last house I never left the kitchen, but this one...ugh. I usually go over my parents to cook lately, my kitchen is sooo old and wooden with an orange and yellow floor - its the one EVERYONE had growing up...It's just not user friendly, KWIM?? We are hoping to do a bit of construction and lots of destruction in a few years and finally get it into modern times. I think Im an ok cook, I am the oldest of 5 kids, and did alot of the cooking growing up. But right now, I leave it to DH or my mama!! I'm still a bit green.

What's your favorite thing(s) about being a mama?
The unending, extreme love that I have for this other being...its one thing to love your DH, dp, whatever, but, being a mama is so much different. YOU are responsible for this being, helping mold them into the person that they will become. And the love I get back is out of this world. Even at 4 (next week, : Sam loves to just cuddle and kiss and hug. There's nothing better than a hug from a dirty boy with a dead worm in one hand.I hope he never looses that affection for me. Generally speaking, being a mama just gets better everyday!

What is your biggest challenge as a mama?
Challenges, ah, there are so many of them.
Learning patience was something that took some time. Nothing was easy and quick anymore - I couldn't just run to the store or sleep til noon. Sleep deprivation was hard on me, physically and emotionally. A newborn that NEVER slept, and only wanted to nurse from midnight to 5 am....typically challenges of being a mama that you hear about, but never understand til your actually there living it.

Finding a balance with DH was also hard. He works long hours and really had no clue what this was doing to me, us. I needed him to understand that times were different, and he needed to be home. At first things were fine, but, gradually he got back to his old workaholic self, and all I wanted to do was shower, or nap, or just be alone for a bit. Even now we struggle with this, but, I think he has come to understand the importance of family time, even if its just mowing the lawn with us spraying the hose at him or laying in bed watching Little Bear. We also took a huge financial risk, and bought the house next to my parents, and much, much closer to his work...like 10 mins in traffic (he really should run or ride his bike!). That has helped as far as establishing more of a routine.

Relationships with my friends went downhill, kidless ones never came around and the ones with kids rolled their eyes that I was nursing a 6 WEEK old, or that he slept WITH us, and wasn't sleeping THROUGH the night. He was always in a sling, in cloth diapers, not vax'd according to their schedule, etc...the list goes on...No longer did we see eye to eye, and it was hard to keep confident in what I was doing. Thankfully I found a local AP group online and started going to LLL meetings. Im much more confident in my ways now, and have many great like-minded mama friends!

And more specifically speaking, we had a minor bump in the road with Sam's language developement which seemed to get stuck when he was about 18 months. He stopped any kind of forward progress, and was growing increasingly frustrated with not being able to communicate. This broke my heart to see him so frustrated, esp as time went on. We've since learned he has a bit of a hearing loss at certain tones, but, things are certainly coming full circle, and you'd never know we took the long way around. And I know that so many other mama's have greater problems, but, from this I've had to learn to be your child's advocate because no one else will.

Longing to be a mother to many has also caused some issues. It took us 2 years to get pg with him, with a few m/c mixed in. We were and are so blessed to have had him, but I have never felt complete. I didn't get my period back til well after he was 2, and that was because I begged my mw o put me on the pill for a month...and it worked. We've had 2 m/c's since then, been to a RE and decided we just couldn't afford to continue...and then I get PG!
