We do a lot on weekends, especially in the summer... so we end up eating out a lot. I'd liek some ideas of "out and about" meals so we can pack a bag or cooler and stop at a waterfall or park and picnic instead of eating out.

Veg would be great, btu DH eats meat so meat meals are ok to.

Bonus points for wheat free options :LOL

We do...
-vegetables and hummus for dipping
-fresh fruit
-fruit leathers
-whole grain barley flour muffins
-whole grain pasta/rice salads, (which are just the cold pasta/grain, grated carrot and grated seeded cucumber with a very light vinegrette). You can also add cold diced chicken to a pasta/grain salad. The kids like orzo.
-frozen water
-snack trays for all day munching. I take those seperate compartment containers and put a trail mix on one side, diced fruit which would normally need to be peeled like kiwi or oranges, sliced of bread with a nut butter and so on.

We have to pack food for going out all the time because of ds's alergies to wheat and dairy.

In order to stay away from fast food or stuff I don't want, I often pack a soft sided cooler when I leave the house, just in case I get hungry. this is what I put in it usually.

hard boiled eggs
cold bean salad
halved avocados
edamame
fresh pineapple, watermelon, blueberries, grapes, apple slices
sugar snap peas, carrots, jicama, baked sweet potato
organic cheese and TLC

We picnic every Saturday night in the summer (free concerts in the park
) and my standbys are:
Thai chicken salad to stuff into lettuce wraps
Fruit salad
Cheese and crackers (rice crackers for you!)
Whatever is growing in the garden (strawberries, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, etc) and dip
Breadsticks
Pasta salads
Cookies

Empanadas (dough baked with veggies and/or meat inside). I cheat and use Pillsbury pie crust dough when I don't have time to make my own.
:
Popcorn
Corn chips and homemade salsa

Well, I could go on and on, but basically if you pack things well, you can take anything! And EVERYTHING tastes better when you eat it outdoors!
