We're having a party here this weekend with our friends and their kids ranging from 1 - 8 yo. Mix of boys and girls. Any suggestions on low cost ways to keep the kids entertained? I got some coloring books, crayons and pencils, bubbles, sidewalk chalk. We have a swing set, sand box. Anything else I could get that will keep them entertained? TIA

We love to do water play outside... fill a few tubs or buckets with water, and put out funnels, measuring cups, strainers, clean squirt bottles, paintbrushes, sponges, etc. kids of all ages can find something interesting to do.

I also encourage non-sidewalk use of chalk...i.e, all over the wooden swing set, fence, deck, trees...anything that is wooden and will be rained upon can be covered in chalk.

Have you thought of asking the attendees to bring some things along? This would help cover the age gap and give each family and opportunity to teach the others their favorites!
