over doing it...

My DH is traveling yet again this week. This is the last week he will be gone though - and not all week, thank goodness, but only 3 days.

Is it possible to overdo it? We had DD's birthday party this weekend, so I did a LOT of running around and working but it was FUN! So last night after dinner DD and I went for a walk around the block and I had to stop every 50 feet because I was having so many surges and I had to stop and let them pass. Sometimes it feels like this baby is going to fall right out of me!

Do you think if you are more active the baby will come sooner? I am a very active person - always on the go with DD - and it's freaking DH out. LOL.
He is insisting I stay home all week. Um, no.

I want to go out to the park and such with DD before the peanut comes and we I HAVE to stay home, and before it's too hot to do anything! I do stay home 2 days a week, so 3 days out isn't so bad is it?

I do admit I poop out a lot easier than I used to! I AM 8 months pregnant after all. LOL. Thoughts?

Well, I hope I'm not too much of a downer but I was the same way last time and I made it to 39+6. I thought for sure between finding myself 4cm and 90% at 37 weeks, working 30 hr/wk until 37 weeks, chasing a toddler and working out three times/wk that I would go early but I didn't.
I had tons of prodromal labor.. it was worth it in the end, I had an easy short labor... But it was nerve-wracking to walk around feeling like the baby was literally going to fall out (and knowing I was almost 1/2 way dialated already). I didn't go more than half an hour from home but we didn't stay home or else I'd have gone crazy.

Hang in there mama! I find myself obsessing again, and I'm trying to keep myself in check, thinking that I will go to around 39 weeks but I find myself hoping for an April baby again.

Ah - no I am relieved to hear it! I cannot stay homebound all the time, waiting to have this baby for the next 4 weeks or I will go INSANE. LOL. So would my DD! If I happen to go into labor at the park, well then, I go into labor at the park!
He'll come when he's ready I suppose.

Michelle, that sounds like me last time. 4 cm and 90 at 37 weeks and I went to 39+5. It was awful because for the last 4 weeks of the pregnancy my OB insisted that my waters were bulging and I was about to explode into labor at any second! And I was working full time too. So I sat around ready to go for over 4 weeks. :/ I am glad my MW doesn't do internals. I don't want to get my hopes up like that again.

luckylady, I say if you feel good enough to be out doing stuff, go for it! You don't want to stay cooped up at home.

OMG! Me too!
I remember my midwife saying my bag of waters was bulging so she was pretty leery during the VE because she didn't want to accidentally break my waters.

It was hard mentally to think I was going into labor any second- and I prodromal labor the whole time. But it was soooooo worth it in the end because once active labor kicked in, my labor was only 4 hours and easy peasy (esp. compared to the induced labor with my first babe).

I would definitely go out, the fresh air is really good for you and DD, and it sounds like such a positive experience. If you start feeling like you need to go home, do it.

I've been feeling a lot more tired and prone to overdoing it lately, too, and I've been trying to catch myself when I start to get tired instead of pushing myself until I'm about to drop, that seems to help but sometimes it's frustrating. (oh, I just wanted to stop at ... and get ... - oh, well!)

Well, my labor wasn't THAT great.
I think I had about 12 hours of real labor, but it didn't get bad until the last 4 or so. Still I don't think it was bad for a first timer. Oh and about the waters that were ready to go "any second"....yeah...I was at 9.5 cm, well into transition, when I had AROM...so much for them being ready to break.
I know what you mean about the prodromal labor too - I was having contractions less than 10 min apart for about a week and a half. They would go all night while I was at work, but then stop. I had weeks of notes where I was writing them down. It was so frustrating!

Me too... I had midwife break my waters at 9cm (which I kinda wish I hadn't cause maybe then ds would have been waterbirthed AND born in the caul
). I guess I had some strong membranes!

Here's to just-short-enough-to-be-easy-but-not-so-short-to-be-too-preciptious labors for all of us!

Too weird, that we had such similar labors/births. I also wish I hadn't had AROM because it made labor more intense, and DS may have been born in the caul.
It will be interesting to see how it goes this time!

Very true! I'm anxious to see how it goes.

How 'bout you Cheryl? Didja go out today?

Well, everyone tells me to sit or the babes will come...except my docs.
They say to listen to my body and rest as needed. So that is my davice to you. Perhaps cut back a bit on what you do or do it all more slowly and take more breaks. I mean, if you can find somewhere nice to sit at the park and watch dd instead of running around with her I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Also, I'd think that suddenly stopping everything you usually do and enjoy doing would be depressing.

DH and I walk everywhere so even when I try not to I find myself pooped before I know it!
I like to get out of the house also but am finding that on a lot of days now I need a nap about an hour after I get up. Sigh, some energy would be nice!

I'm 35 weeks and have been more active this week than I have been in a while! We're on a little work trip/vacation and I've walked miles around San Francisco in the last few days. I'm tired today and ready to go home tomorrow, but I think if it was possible to overdo it, this week would have done me in. Other than being a little tired, though, I still feel great!
