So I had an appt. today. My edd has always been the first or second of sept. Apparently the MW at the birth center don't communicate.....The mw i saw today was saying that my edd is the 5th (not horrible i know). My biggest concern was that i was still "safe" to deliver (hahaha at this point) after the 12th at the BC. She said yes. Great right?? Well I have been feeling like this babe will be just a tad early. Maybe just a few days but still early. Thats fine with me!! But after really thinking about it i am now concerned about going OVER my due date by alot. Let me explain:
DS was, according to conception date which i knew, was 11 days overdue (but my official edd he was 6 days overdue). I WORKED to get him out...sex for 3 days straight, nipple stim in the shower, etc. PLUS my job was waitressing, i walked and carried stuff and basically worked up until 2ish weeks before EDD. Still didn't have ANY false or early labor. I always had tons of BH contraxtions everyday.

This time around I am a SAHM, i certaintly don't walk around that much. I carry ds but not a whole lot. I THINK my BH ctx have gone DOWN in the last few weeks, i have had no more false labor, i hardly have sex and when we do (last night...wahoo!! first time in 3 weeks) i had NO BH ctx or ANYTHING. Not alot of discharge (don't remember last time).

Saying all this I do want to say that a.) baby stays dropped quite a bit more now (ds never dropped, just carried low), i am super swollen/engorged "down there". My hips/back are grinding (yes literally) and I am afraid that if i don't get a chiro to adjust me i won't go into labor at all cause the baby can't engage and start labor (KWIM??).

To top it all off the mw said today that at 41 weeks we will vigoursly try to naturally induce labor cause a few days after that i would have to go to the hospital....and all along i was thinking that if i delivered on the night of 41+6 i could deliver at the BC.....

So on one hand I feel like the babe could be pretty much right on time on the other I am wondering if I have NO signs and a hugely different 'feel' about the entire last few weeks i could go over a whole lot more!!! So I am not quite freaking out but its bugging me......

question...does your MW have you on any herbs right now? Mine are thinking that I will go to 41 weeks and have put me on Red Raspberry combo and Evening Primrose oil to get the old uterus and cervix ready for action. They are also supposed to keep me from going too far over. I would ask your MW about herbs, let her know about your concerns...

no they haven't put me on anything. i think that they would tell me just to go out and buy xyz. i have wondered if i should start something but i have no idea what would be best and i don't want to spend alot since i am going to be POOR here in a few weeks

funny thing is that even tho i am 37 weeks tomorrow i don't see my mw for another 2 weeks!! they were all booked up next week so they waited until the week after which was really full and only friday would work for me.....so my next appt. could be my last!! (unless i go over....) they haven't even checked me yet. i have no idea if i am still high and tight or if maybe i have a little pregession. with ds (if i remember right) about 2ish weeks before edd i was 3 cm 80% effaced. no change until labor.

First of all: you need to find a way to relax! By tensing yourself up about it, you'll give your body the signals that it isn't safe to birth and you'll stall a labour. Second, can you ask your midwife to reasess your "due date" when it comes time? My first midwife was willing to do this with her clients, because obviously some babies NEED to cook longer than others! Every body and baby is very different.

i didn't know if they would reasses my due date. i will certainly ask but i have the feeling that if i ask past my edd then they will say no. seems like the mw i talked to today is really regulated by their dr on call or whoever assess risks etc.

i am not to stressed about it....just in pain. i do think that a chiro appt. would help tremendously but i don't want to go to soon and then be all messed up by my edd. ugh. never ends right?

Don't go in after your EDD, go in before. Like, at around 39 weeks say, "Are you SURE about my due date? Because..." and have her think it over. Many midwives are willing to put on the record that they made a mistake and you're actually due a week later, allowing you time to go into labour naturally and safely.

FWIW -- My MWs discuss evening primrose oil with all their clients and leave it up to us if we want to use it or not. If we do, they suggest that, starting at 37 weeks, you take 1500 mg orally 3x/day. The effect is to soften the cervix and increase flexibility of pelvic ligaments. Suppoedly this does not itself stimulate labor, but rather makes the body more receptive to labor-inducing stimuli. (You can also apply EPO topically to your cervix, but I don't know much about that.)

ETA: I bought some at the drugstore and I think I worked it out in my head that about a 10-day supply cost about $7.

Regardless, try not to worry (says the one who worries daily
) -- but really, the baby will come when it comes and all will be well.

well my next appt will be 39 weeks....if theres nothing changing i will see about getting an official date later.

i don't know where to buy primrose oil, i havent' seen anything like it at the drugstore...course i wasn't looking. we have a natural foods store but i don't want to pay an arm and a leg just cause it comes out of their doors...... of course i bet it would be hard for me to even remember to take them once a day let alone 3x a day!!
: i don't even take my prenatals!!

thanks for the help!! hopefully things will start to change. i am going to *try* to get a chiro appt. in the early 38th week and then again a few days later....i just hope i can find someone i can afford
