I am prone to have an oversupply (recurrent mastitis, blah blah blah). DS is almost three months and is a precious little fusbudget. They only way I can soothe him is by nursing him. Sometimes, a lot. So, my oversupply is on overdrive (and my son is really chubby!). The days are tolerable but the nights are terrible.

He is finally giving me a five hour stretch. The rest of the night is a nightmare of gagging, spitting, vomiting, not sleeping well because of the former. I try to express some milk in a towel but it isn't enough to make a difference. I only nurse on one side (I try but sometimes I just have to have him relieve the pressure) and pump the other side in the morning. I can't use nipple shields b/c of the mastitis. I am properly positioned.

I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

THanks

Mastitis is often your body's way of telling you to SLOW DOWN. I understand the lack of sleep - I have oversupply problems too and a 2 month old who doesn't tolerate nursing in bed at all during the night! I have to get up in a chair to nurse her and that is hard! Do you have any other kids to take care of? Is there any way you can just put all your other responsibilities on hold to get some rest?

Are you block feeding? That really helped my oversupply level out.
