Overweight here, and feeling down & blue

I was 128 when I got married in 1989. I am 5'8". DH said I looked great, I thought I looked great. Everyone else thought I was to skinny. Now, almost 15 yrs and 6 kids later...I am 200. I don't look obese fat, but I am way over from what I want to be. I know when I walked I lost inches for sure. I was feeling great. My jeans were getting loose. But then it got to humid. I quit and now I feel like I weigh more then ever. I am so bummed out. Baby is almost 5 months old. I know it takes time. I feel like I can't control my eating (sweets!) and drinking Dr. Pepper. Sometimes I am really good, others I go off the deep end. I vision myself exercising, eating healthy and looking good. But then it doesn't happen...

I know how u feel, I have been doing weight watchers for 3 mos. now, and I could kick myself for not starting it sooner. It has really helped me a lot. I am now just below the 200 lbs. mark, and feel so much better. Only thing u can do is take one day at a time.
I'm right there with you mamas! I would love to be at my wedding-wieght. But most of all my energy is on the floor. It is so hard to start when I feel like i have so far to go!!

Side note: My baby is 14 months old and I still haven't lost the baby weight. I wish I could just get it all sucked out of me!!

I have a policy that I plan my workouts every week (so say, mwf walk 40 minutes, saturday bike with dh). Then if I want to bag out n my workout I have to at the bare minimum go for a walk or run for 10 minutes. I'm back from one of those 10 minute jobs --- it turned in to 30+ minutes after I got out there.

hang in there. find ways to get kiddos to either help watch other kiddos or have those kids riding bikes while you walk/run. Kids like to see their moms working out!

This is ME.
Dr. Pepper and sweets are my downfall.
I try to go without, but I feel like Dr. Pepper fixes everything (meaning, if I am stressed, it makes me feel better somehow!) and I will sneak sweets just so no one knows.

I have about 20 lbs to get back to pre-preg and probably should have ideally been about 15 lbs less then.
I'm new here and don't know alot of ladies yet, but just wanted you to know you are not alone.

I know diet sodas are evil as well, but grabbing a diet coke every now and then helps me alot when I want some sweet fizz..

Maybe find a healthier drink to have on hand, and don't buy soda to have at home!!! Make a pitcher of Iced tea sweetened with Stevia and keep a bottle of with you. I am one of those that need to be sipping on something all the time, so it's coffee (am), water, tea or diet coke (afternoon), water, wine or beer (with dinner) water...

I also used www.fitday.com and kept track of everything I eat. Maybe do this a couple of days w/o trying to change anything? I seriously stick to healthier habits when I have the truth staring me back in my face. Even on my days that I go over in calories or eat a bag of chips and salsa, I enter it in. I makes a huge difference being honest with myself.

You can do it!!! I weighed 190 at my heaviest (I am 5'3") and I now weigh 120. Once you get going it is easy, it's just the starting part that seems insurmountable!

I'm still 7 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight (which was 239), so I'm reluctant to give advice, but I can tell you what I'm trying (that's worked for me in the past) to at least feel better about myself. I'm doing a short pilates ab routine every morning (I timed it this morning--6 minutes). I figure I have time for that every day and it makes me feel much more confident. Pilates is really quick and effective--I see results already and it's just my second day. In the past, once I've started to feel better about myself, I've eaten more healthily without much effort. Do whatever makes you feel like a goddess~!
Hi--
I also went to WW several months ago (top weight about 185) and have now lost 33 pounds with a few more to go. It has been great for me...I drank at least a Coke a day and now do diet or nothing because WW forces you to make choices and coke isn't worth the points for me!

good luck to you whatever you do. Six kids is an amazing accomplishment and ITA with Kristin that it can only benefit them to see a healthy mama.

Peace.

I had baby #1 12 weeks ago and I'm just stuck at 20 lbs over pre-pregnancy weight. It totally makes me feel bummed sometimes. I try to put my energy into thinking about what a miracle a woman's body is...that we can grow these beautiful babies and nourish them...but reality sets in when I have no pants that fit. Then I just feel nasty.

I've never been a disciplined eater, but I know I need to work on that. I think I'll start writing in a food diary. I know once I start running again it will come off, but I feel reluctant to leave the baby with my hubby so I can run...Any tips?

Also, for those of you who go to weight watchers, can you take your baby? How long are the meetings? Do you have to go?are there mtgs geared toward nursing moms? thanks to you all for sharing your stories and advise.

It probably depends on the meetings and people running it as to what experience you will have. Sometimes there are meetings specifically directed towards adults with young children. I couldn't go to that one, so I had to go another day time meeting. Some of the people had children, but if your child makes noise you have to leave. The woman at the desk was pretty pushy about it.

For the running, can you get a jogger stroller? I have a treadmill, but I can't use it now that my daughter can crawl, unless I tell my husband to keep her upstairs. I usually put her in a sling or pack so that I can walk on it. I also have a jogger stroller, but I haven't really used it much with the baby. I used to use it a lot with my first daughter.

I'm not a big W.W. fan because I don't have time/energy to weigh, write down and go to meetings. But I do respect mamas that swear buy it. It defintely works for some. I know that if you call the directory and then call the specific W.W. store, they have specific meetings that include babies. They even have a program for nursing moms.

I went online and ordered some yoga stuff. I want to start doing the yoga ball exercises and I am commiting to start moving everyday even if it is only for 5 minutes. That is my plan. How 'bout you??

I'm big and blue too sometimes, I was 160 pre-preg with dd #1 16 years ago, gained 60lbs (whoa mama) and never lost it....then was 215 pre-preg with dd #2, gained 36lbs , she's 9 months old and I was just getting back on track...but oops I'm 14/15 wks preg. with #3 and my last baby (sigh) so I'm holding at 240 :sad so I'm eating low carbs, no white starches, potatoes, flour, wht rice, sugar etc, no processed foods, no fast food...I really want to only gain the obese girls 15lbs reccomended for pregnancy.....and I know I know diet soda is evil, but by god I just have to have it.....the pop fizz of the can opening makes me relax......try switching to diet dr pepper that will cut a bunch of calories right there...good luck and I'm with ya!
I'm with ya, except it is Coke, not Dr Pepper. (Dr Pepper is a distant 2nd though- NEVER Pepsi- LOL)

I was doing really well with exercise then I got sick for a week and TX got HOT, so I havent gotten back on the bandwagon. I don't feel like I have the energy to focus on losing weight and the various emotional issues that crop up with it. I did ediets for a short time and it worked great. I couldn't afford it though. It isn't expensive, we are just broke. I liked it b/c it gave you exactly what to eat, recipes and shopping list. It is the constant THINKING about food that gets me off track. I tend to obsess.

I am definitely fat even though I am only a little over my pre-preg weight (4-5 lbs) and I have probably lost those same 4-5 lbs at LEAST 10 times in the 2 yrs since dd was born. I've lost enough weight to be at my goal already LOL WOW- I never thought of it like that. I am about 15 lbs over my marriage weight, but I was fat then too. It really does bum me out. In law school I was 120, now I am 185!!
