Hey everyone,

Our surro has been experiencing strong braxton hicks contractions and pain on left side. She had her blood pressure crash on her last weekend, so we ended up going for 2 non-stress tests at the hospital this week (she has pre-eclempsia and gestational diabetes and baby is measuring huge). When we were at the 2nd non-stress test, we asked the nurse if she had a UTI, they checked her urine and said no, and she suggested it was ligament pain, because this is her 4th pregnancy and the more pregnancies you have, the more ligament pain you can get.

She will still feeling the pain 48 hrs later, so she called the OB to ask if there was anything she could do, but she told them she had a torn ligament, which she does not have, and they told her to go for another non-stress test at the hospital. Not sure it was because of the torn ligament comment, but "go to the hospital for a non-stress test" seems to be the thing that comes out of the mouth 24/7.

We both thought that was insane, because she already told the nurse while she was having a non-stress test, and the nurse was not concerned, so why would we go for another one? And the baby HATED the non-stress test, so I definitely do not want to be doing that for no reason.

I checked with Dr. Google (lol) and read that a belly band can help, we went to the maternity store and they had one in plus sizes, but it was hitting her right where the pain was, so that wasn't good. If she lifts up the belly, the pain goes away. I've read that Bella Bands are good, but the people in the maternity store said they would not support the belly but I have since read that they do.

Any advice for my poor friend (and amazing surro) who is in pain?

Thanks so much,
Christie

Go swimming? That might help temporarily. Aren't there back brace things for pregnancy women that lift the belly up to take pressure off the back? If it hits the sore spot, she could maybe put a small pillow of something soft between her belly and and band. I don't know, but I hope she feels better soon!

I feel her pain. had bad ligament pain on right side while baby was sort of sitting up against it. Now that baby turned, it had let up.

I found Yoga gave me some temporary relief. I HATE yoga, find it interminably boring, but it really did seem to help. There are a kagillion prenatal yoga dvds out there.

Thanks mamas
We bought her a bella band, a band that has an ice and heating pack and a pregnancy pillow, so hopefully that will do the trick! She does swim and walk a lot, but I am not sure about the yoga, I will find out.

I called Motherisk at The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) and they siad you can ice or heat for 5-10 mins and also take a small dose of Tylenol if the pain is bad.

We have our next OB appointment on Monday.

I get a very sharp, intense, stabbing pain very low on my left abdomen, almost where my upper thigh meets my lower ab. It only happens in certain position, most commonly when I sit down to pull on my pants and move a specific way. And it doubles me over in pain and shock. But it passes in several minutes. I asked my midwife today and she was not really concerned- just told me to move more slowly and not make movements that cause the pain

I don't know if this is what your surro is feeling, but if it's constant I do feel for her. It's rather painful.

Bleh I have one ligament on my left side that will ache & hurt badly for over 24 hours sometimes. Sounds a lot like what your surro is having happen?

My dr basically told us that it happens & it can hurt like a toothache
Drinking lots of water & trying to make sure I don't scooch my butt into places helps me I've found.

Like dh has a truck that is lifted, I CAN get a side of my butt on the seat & slide over but I've found it makes that ligament just kill me for hours, so I don't do that anymore, I use the handles & the step to pull myself up & in.

If you rub where the ligament attaches, that can sometimes get it to release. I can never get it to release myself though. My chiro can find it and get it to release pretty quickly. Can your surro go see a chiro?

It's pretty normal for those ligaments to spasm and just not release. Very very very painful.
