Are there any options for pain relief in a small (very small) child without fever reduction? Eli is sick and running a fever; I'd like his temperature to stay up to fight the infection, but I can't stand to see him in pain. He's obviously got a headache from it. What can I do to get rid of the headache, or will that necessitate lowering the fever as well?

I think that pain relief and fever reduction go hand in hand. My 2yo runs very high fevers, upwards of 106, and a few times we've had to take him to the ER to get a steroid injection to bring the fever down. He hallucinates and whatnot. Anyway, all the tylenol and motrin in the world wouldn't make him feel better until the fever broke.<br><br>
I'm interested to see if anyone else has any suggestions, though.
