My 3 yr old started up nursing again after not having nursed very much for about 6 wks ( he was still nursing some though) after my newborn was born in July. I totally want to tandem and I think it is so important to continue to nurse my 3 yr old if he needs me to, but he is hurting me. He leaves teeth marks every time he nurses and I can feel his teeth clenching down while he nurses. I have him open his mouth as wide as he can and then I try to put as much nipple as I can in his mouth, and I ask him to suck more gently, but it is not helping too much. I wanted to know if any one had suggestions or had had this problem. Thanks so much......

I haven't tandem nursed (yet), but I heard at LLL if they go long periods they can kind of "forget" how to suck on the nipple. You'll probably be sore until he "relearns" how to nurse. Good luck!

make a BIG mouth, stick out your tongue. then cram as much breast in as you can.

correct body positions. tummy to tummy. don't let him pull away and take your nipple with him. pull him close.

nursing is more of a chewing motion than a straight suck. you can talk to him about it. maybe he can see the baby's jaw moving.

i did this with my 2 kids for a long time and it was totally worth it. very sweet between the 2 of them.
