When I get them they feel like flutters in my heart. They never last long (if they do you should see a cardi because arrythmia is dangerous) and it isn't so dramatic but I've gotten used to them. I have mitral valve prolapse and it can cause the occasional palp

I believe the pounding is fairly common in pregnancy due to the extra strain. Palpitations, though usually harmless, should be brought up, just in case they are indicative of something more serious.
They feel like a flutter, like HUGE butterlfy wings in your chest.
