I was suprised to see in another thread how many of us do our own pictures for our kids. So who else? What are some of your favorite locations outside of home?

I'm always looking for new inspiration and ideas- anyone interested in having changing themes/ideas and each of us submitting our "version" of it? Like maybe "reflections" one months or "water" another- where we can implement the theme however we are moved to do so?

I thought it'd be fun for us to share our work and creativity and see where it takes us. This is one of my favorite things in teh world. I used to work secularily as a photographer but I've quit working to SH and sometimes I feel like my creativity is suffering. I'd love to spark it back up a notch.

Hi Rainbow! I have 2 of your butterfly wings that you made, my dd loves them still!

Anyway, dh and I are photographers too.......but sadly, we havent taken alot lately. I have all the equipment for a darkroom....someday. I was actually thinking of taking a class at the CC where I live. They have one on saturdays for advanced students, and you get full use of the darkroom. Im itching to get back into it, as it is my first love, creatively speaking. BUt it would be great to get inspired to do a little before the fall......

Hope others are interested too! Great idea!

Hey rainsmom
I remember making them, I'm so glad she still loves them! My DD is just now all about wearing hers. I used to have the darkroom stuff, but my brother is putting it to better use at the moment. I just didn't have the space to store it or use it so I decided to pass it on to someone who did. I have some camera's that I land and don't get to use enough and someg reat white lightning lights. The camera's I use are my old trusted pentext and a Mamiya that I love, and a digital- the only digital I could find that I can use with my lighting for under 1500.00. I can't wait for digital prices to go down and for the used market to open up. It is an Olympus 4 Megapixel.
I've also been considering taking CC classes primarily for the dark room privileges. LOL.

Hey Plum! How old is your DD? Did you always do her pics yourself or what motivated you to start doing them yourself?

wow- suprised there aren't more of us! So who wants to get creative? Anyone want to join me in thinking of a theme and working to get a picture of our kid/kids that represent it as we see it? I remember we did this on mamatron for awhile- it was awesome and inspiring. Got me motivated to move past posed pictures to art. Anyone with me?

Great idea for a thread, thanks!

I would love to do some themes. How about something with water since it's summer (for most of us) now?

Here are a few of my recent favorites of my boys:

Luke in hat

Brothers

Pool

Also, I've been thinking of putting together a web page of how-to tips for taking great pictures of babies and kids. It would be simple stuff anyone can do with any camera. Do you think there would be interest in this? It would be a lot of work to set up but I think lots of people might get something from it.

Awesome thread! I take SO many photos of Orion. We've got 1500+ digital photos so far
I love coming up with cute ideas to photograph him
He's SUCH a smilie good natured little guy (except at 3am! LOL!) he's a joy to photograph

I've been taking photos of him in the bathtub since his first bath with me at 1 week old (ok Dh helps with the photos) to see how big he's getting... I did the photos for his christmas card. I think my biggest challange is taking photos of him in the house. Not the cute action shots, but the ones where you don't want random house clutter behind them... I've done the sheet draping thing and stuff, but that gets boring after awhile...

Here's some "posed" photos I've done of ds:

Orion nursing in the pool (ok I didn't take this one, but we did pose!)
Orionzilla!
In the park
Playing
Christmas Card
Halloween
With the Belly Cast
Two Days Old
With Dada about an hour after birth (yes I took this one myself! LOL!)

Ok wow, I didn't mean to go so overboard!

Oh in my photo posting frenzy I forgot to add:

I think a website with tips would be great! Just learning a couple of tricks has really helped improve my photographs!

And I *really* like the idea of a theme, or idea, or whatever, and then seeing what everyone comes up with! Maybe we could even start a yahoo group and make folders in the photo section of our themes. Like "water" or "the color yellow" or whatever creative ideas we have, and then we could have an archive! It would really help me to stay creative about taking photos, especailly as Orion is getting older...

I can see 'em
Looks great!
I think the site would be fun to put togeter. My dad is a professional photographer so I am sure we could get some good input up there collectively. I used to be a paid photographer but I gave that up to stay home. I'm thinking of starting it back up very very part time on my schedule. What I want to do is birth photography- more artistic stuff. I think that would be great!
I think I'll upload some to shutterfly to share later tonight. I love the idea of opening a group shutterfly so we can have one album each month with the theme and we can each add our addition Then we can watch it grow and new members of our tribe can see what it is we do. I'm moving over the weekend so give me a week and I'll jump in and get my hands dirty.
I'll be back after a bit with more

Well, I put some pics in an album. My old computer is still holding some of my favorite scanned images hostage
: But here are some. Even one I took PG of myself (last page)

Let's do water for the month of July. Wherever your imagination takes you with that. I made a shutterfly album- to log in email is [email protected] password is mothering.
Should we try to have one each by such & such a date (july 15 maybe?) or just do a casual- if you get a good related to topic shot upload it whenever within the month of July? Personally I'm a casual kinda girl. LOL. But I can function with structure.

I'm sure we'll tweak and adjust and hopefully grow as we go. Any ideas or suggestions?

Would any of you be interested in doing some serious critiquing of each other's photos? We could pick one of ours that we'd like to have critiqued, and the rest of us could say what we like about it and how we think it could have been improved. I've done some critiquing before and I have really learned a lot about what makes photos work, through writing and reading critiques.

Lisa, I can't see your pictures either.

Rainbow I LOVE the photos!! And *arg* sorry everyone who can't see the photos, something is up with my webpage that some people can't view the photos *sniff sniff*. Dh is the computer guru, so I'll ask him when he wakes up, but last time we didn't solve the problem, so I'm not sure if we will now...

But if your desperate you can replace this: 64.85.237.20 for www.mattandlisahart.com in the links to see the photos... but our ip changes occasionally, so I didn't want to use the ip (which everyone can see, I think) and have the links not work in a few weeks, yk?

I like the idea of just getting the photo up whenever in the month we can... I'm not much for structure! :LOL And maybe if we get lots of photos soon, we can start a new theme as well, and just do a new theme whenever most of us have done the last one, and the longest we'd go would be a month (in case some ideas flop for some reason)....

This is a wonderful idea!

I am a professional photographer and I love to shoot and I love to look at other people's work and get nspired.

I used belong to photoworkshop.com - I love this site and want to join again. There are so many talented professionals and they have a crit circle and there are also themes and contests that are fun. I learned a lot being there.

Here is my website: www.cheryllau.com/matgal.htm

That's the maternity gallery - I am actually working on my site now - I needed an update.

There are lots of sites that already have this information but one more never hurts.

I think the theme is a great idea! I like the idea of water as well...count me in.

I actually want to move away from portrait photography and get back into art photography and PJ. I really love street photography. I have been working on a series while in Chicago of street performers.

I love street photography!
What do you shoot with? I have a few camera's- a Mamiya, a pentex, and a couple digitals. Eventually I want to et a digital medium format
. I also use White lightnings- what do you use? I don't get mine out of the closet enough at all.
Your site looks awesome! I'm gonna check out the site you suggested. I'm lucky to get a lot of feedback from my father to- he wants to get out of portrait to- it is pretty taxing for him as a creative thinker to have to do the customer service aspect of a photo studio.

I have gone digital - finally. I was anti-digital for soooo long, but now I think it's as good as film - something I NEVER thought I would think! I have a Canon EOS digital and 3 different lenses. For lighting I bought Photoflex, but I never even use it. I am thinking of selling it on Ebay. I prefer natural light as much as possible.

Your shots are nice too!

So how should we do this? The way it was on photoworkshop was 1 assignment a month. I liked it that way because it really makes you push the envelope...should we do water as the theme for July? We can all set up portfolios on shutterfly or some other site.

yes, portrait photography can be a bore - but I refuse to shoot boring 'ol portraits and now do more PJ style portrait photography.

: I so want an EOS! Any SLR digital would make my day. Eventually.
I use natural light most of the time myself- same reason. Gotta love the North window :LOL Natural light graces the frame better than any system could. I still like playing around with my lightnings though.

I think one a month is good- water for July sounds good. My brain is reeling now... hmmmm....

Here is one of my favorite natural lit pics- that is my pg belly but I managed to take that pic with me and my DD of myself. I wanted a belly pic and DH somehow can't take a pic without being all off center and stuff. :LOL
