I have a friend expecting twins and she is not at all plugged into the parenting community or online forums. She's in Winthrop, but I think that's near Boston...? She is looking for suggestions on the following things:

1. What parenting groups are there in the area? API, LLL, MOM, babywearing, playgroups, etc.?

2. What parenting stores or other local resources are there?

3. Are there any local Yahoo, Google, or Meetup Groups for parents, especially for parents of multiples? She might also be interested in AP and NP groups, but she is a little more mainstream, so would appreciate anything, probably!

Thanks so much for your insight!
Best,
The LLL of Boston usually meets in JP, which would probably be hard for her to get to but they might be connected with some of the resources in that area:

Isis Maternity has a few locations in Boston and the suburbs, and friends who have gone to classes and playgroups there have been very happy.

There's a fantastic baby store called Crunchy Granola Baby (or something like that) in Salem, just up the Lynnway from Winthrop (sort of).

Hmm, looking at the list of LLL groups and she'll have to travel some. When pp suggested Jamaica Plain I thought there MUST be one closer, but not so much. Winthrop is a bit isolated even though it's close to Boston....you have to drive North to get off the peninsula.

I second Isis Maternity. I've used the Arlington location...it's great!

I'd also suggest she spend a little time looking for like-minded groups on Yahoo Groups and Meetup, etc.

Have her contact the Mass mothers of twins: http://www.mmota.org/ --Her's would be the North Suburban: http://www.nspom.org/

There are different chapters, but the moms of twins I know swear by them and the chat boards and classified listings. They have a bi-annual twin sale that "anyone who is anyone" in the twin world participates in, or goes to. (slightly kidding, but kind of not).
She can get TONS of advice/help/friend-making there.
There are also meetup groups, but I'm not sure if they're not just outcroppings of the same group in different places.

Good luck!
