For mothers day my sister and I are wanting to donate some money for my mom instead of getting her more junk she doesn't need. We would like to do something fairly local and realted to birth/mama/women's issues. What are some good places/organizations?

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but there is a local chapter, ICAN of Portland. See the link in my signature for information about ICAN. You can subscribe through the local chapter ($30/year) and if you do they get to keep part of the funds. Your mom would get The Clarion which is a quarterly newsletter ICAN puts out.

Here is ICAN's mission statement:
The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization founded by Esther Booth Zorn in 1982. ICAN's mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).

Thanks for the great ideas. I had not thought of ICAN, but that could be good. I was a c-section and she could not find a doc to do VBAC at the time, but she wanted to. So that would be an issue that is close to her heart.

Any other ideas?

what about La Leche League - you can donate to a local group and thereby support local mammas - or you could donate to LLL of oregon, or LLL international . ..

here is the portland chapter:

http://www.lllusa.org/web/PortlandOR.html
