Does anyone have a recommendation of a good children's dentist? I live in Prescott but want to get a second opinion (I took DD to "Kidzam," which seems to be the only thing here) and am willing to drive to Flag, Phoenix, Cottonwood, etc.<br><br><br>

they are the best!!!! i cannot say enough good things about them! my DD needed dental surgery, which was a scary prospect but they answered all of my questions and eased my fears. both dentists took time to talk to me about my concerns and the best way to go about the procedure and even offered discounts at the local hospital! Dr. kapur has been in business since 1976 and is great with kids...my DD loved it there and didn't want to leave, she had so much fun!<br>
i really hope you'll call them. Dr. kapur can at least recommend a dentist nearer you that is very reputable and that he trusts.

we have major dental surgery for our 20mo scheduled with james michaud in gilbert (four root canals and crowns). i am not sure though. the whole thing is too scary now...just too scary. thursday is the pricedure and i might offer more after that.......

I would avoid Kids Dental Center in Chandler. They told me DS needed LOTS of work IMMEDIATELY, but 2 others disagreed. It smelled fishy and it was.<br><br>

We went to William Heimann in central Phx. My ds needed fillings and a crown, and everything went well. Good luck finding a dentist.

most dentists don't use amalgam that i have met<br>

Cool, I'll have to check him out. Every dentist that DS1 went to did amalgams w/him (we saw three or four) <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> Luckily most of them have fallen out by now.<br><br>
They took him into the hospital and put him under general anesthesia for his first work at around your son's age. The nurse brought me tissues out before I even started crying as they took him away. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> I guess I must have had that look in my eyes. It doesn't sound like they'll be doing that to yours though?<br><br>
The rest of the work wasn't so bad, even when they did the drink that made him sleepy, it wasn't as bad as the hospital was.<br><br>
We're attempting some of the methods in the curing cavities through nutrition thread this time around. But DS2 has bumped a tooth and caused it to 'die' so we may need a little more intervention. Thanks for the recommendation and good luck on thursday!

We've been very happy with Dr. Vasquez at Kids Grins Pediatric Dentistry. She is great with kids - very calm, gentle and patient. She even lets me hold my youngest who freaks out at the dentist. With my youngest, I hold her on my lap and lay her back. Dr. Vasquez does the bare minimun so as not to traumatize her. Also, my oldest has two brown spots on her teeth. Dr. Vasquez very easily could have said they needed to be fixed and I would be none the wiser. But, she just checks the spots each time and so far, so good. Here is her info:<br>

They said that they could root canal it, or pull it, and sometimes do because the tooth can cause an infection?? It doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it, but I was feeling bad for him with his little grey front tooth <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/gloomy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Gloomy">: I probably won't take him anywhere unless I see a change in it though, but wanted to be prepared in case.

Mitzi Wasden in Cottonwood--she even knew about ART (Atraumatic Restorative Technique) a drill free option if the decay isn't too advanced. She does not use "consious sedation" and/or the papoose board because she feels like it is too traumatic-for her and the child. She thinks she can cap my dd's lateral incisors instead of extracting them as the place in Prescott said they would do. Her number is 928-634-6641.

OT update : we did our ds4's dental work with james michaud last month and were very happy with the staff and the way he was treated and the careful care of his body during sedation and follow up and the way his teeth are. He used stainless steel caps with a plastic cover ...they look pretty decent. even a little crooked in one spot like a natural tooth but so white ... lol
