Hi- I'm seeking recommended pediatricians in the New/North/South/East Brunswick areas as well as Somerset. I'd like to find a doctor affiliated with St. Peter's (willing to drive a little further such as Highland Park, Old Bridge, etc. if they're affiliated w/St. Peter's). I'm looking for someone that has holistic views as well as traditional. In other words, I don't want to someone who is quick to prescribe medication without true cause. Breastfeeding as well as vaccines are also important.

I'd appreciate any advice and suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

You might check out Alicia Dermer. She is an IBCLC, and a family practitioner. She teaches at Robert Wood Johnson, and she also has another office.

Dr. Kevin Holder

Thanks for your post and for the recommendation. Do you know if Dr. Holder is affiliated w/St. Peter's?

Thanks for your post and for the recommendation. Do you know if she has a website? I'm going to do a search online.

Thanks again.

I don't think she has a website for her practice, but if you Google her, you can find tons of links with her info, and also articles she has written. She was running the breastfeeding clinic at RWJ the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month, if you are interested in meeting her.

Edited to add, here is a link to the breastfeeding support group:

Highly doubtful. That would be kind of a haul for a doctor in an emergency situation.

Makes sense. That is quite a distance.

Didn't think finding a pediatrician would be so difficult! Just wish I could find someone local (or semi local) that would agree to delayed vaccinations. I interviewed one dr. so far and she said she would but doesn't agree. I wasn't crazy about the office though. Spoke w/another dr. who also agreed. I set up a prenatal appt. w/her (even though I was told they'd be a fee for the visit) but decided to cancel when I found out she's not board certified. I'm sort of disappointed because I spoke w/her over the phone and she also said she'd agree to space out the vaccines. She seemed very nice and knowledgeable but not being board certified somehow bothers me.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Pediatrician not being board certified that is?

I used to bring the kiddies to the Metuchen Pediatric Associates in Metuchen and loved them! I've since moved, otherwise, I would still be going to them. There's 2 of them in this practice (at least 2 years ago) - Dr. Tuma and Farkas. Very laidback but very knowledgeable. People who used to go to them as kids bring their kids! Anyhow, I'm not totally sure if they go to St. Pete's but you can call them!

I just started going to the BFing group at RWJ. Dr. Dermer is wonderful! We may switch to her even though she's a bit far.
