Whoa, that was akward! I'm still not completely confident with my Maya Wrap, maybe that's why it was so wierd. I thought I'd try it out at home in case nature calls sometime when I'm out and about. Oh, I sure hope it doesn't! I don't know how I'd do that in a little stall.

Anyone have suggestions on how to make it easier?

Practice, practice, practice. I found that it's pretty easy to do in a MT, never tried in a Maya Wrap. Hope someone else has some better advice.

I lift the baby up to my shoulder, as high as possible, and pull the tail tight (with the outside rail high up around them) to hold them up there. Then they're high, and I can move around without them in the way, IYKWIM. Works okay, just maybe you need to practice the adjustment before you actually need it in an emergency, you know?

Have done this also with wraps/back carries, you just lean very far forward so their feet don't wiggle down into ... you get the point.

It's really not the most comfortable thing to deal with, but IMO it's still better than putting a toddling 1yo or some such down on the floor to explore the public bathroom till you're done ... yuck.

Just watch the tail...wouldn't want to let it take a dip.

Another trick that I almost never use (I usually do merpk's lift trick) is to use the toilet backwards: face the tank. This is only for times when you have a sleeping kid on your back and are afraid to disturb them.

I do it all the time in my maya wrap. I just raise ds up a bit in the sling and tuck the tail in somewhere so it doesn't hang down. The tricky part I have found is getting pants back up, especially if they are my tight jeans Seriously, it's a lot easier to re-clothe with elastic or stretchy pants, or a skirt.
