Hi, mamas! My brother's wife is expecting their first baby. They live in Pensacola, and do not have insurance (he owns his own business and she is a student). He thinks they make too much for medicaid, but I told him that most states have special coverage for pregnancy. He's going to look into it, but in the meantime, I thought I would check with you all for any ideas. It's been more than 10 years since I've lived there (and I really miss my hometown ), so I have no idea where he should start.

He mentioned a birth center, and they are going to visit this week. Does anyone have any info on birth centers in Pensacola? Midwife recommendations? Any OB recommendations that are natural birth friendly if they decide to go that route?

Also, recommendations for doulas and childbirth classes would be lovely!

Any and all help is appreciated.

The birth center and the midwife (Vicki Taylor) are absolutely fantastic. My VBAC was there with her (I drove two hours each way for everything!) and wouldn't change a thing. She's a completely wonderful, competant midwife who's philosophies are completely wrapped up in trusting birth and your body. They'll love her if they're looking for a homebirth or intervention free birth center.

Doulas... umm... I know two who work with Vicki often. Donna Chivers and Elizabeth Longworth(?). I believe Elizabeth also teaches Bradley classes.

If they have any questions for moms who've birthed with Vicki I would be very happy to talk to them She's a true gem who's an awesome VBAC activist.
