Absolutely not!
I have been told that it is possible our dds profound hearing loss could have been caused by pepto.

Pepto is not on my safe list.

Pepcid Complete is, and my OB personally told me to take it twice per day (When I wake up, and before I go to bed.) along with my anti-nausea meds to help with that.

I have the berry flavored chewables, and they have really helped. If I don't take them, I will choke on the acid, and that is awful.

Additionally, NSAIDs (aspirin and ibuprofen) prevent the production of prostaglandins. It is especially teratogenic in the last three months of pregnancy.

Aspirin (and Pepto) are not safe in breastfeeding, either. The baby cannot metabolize them and excrete them properly. Additionally, there is a suspicion that aspirin use and breastfeeding could cause Reye's Syndrome in the child.

Deb
I've been told that it's possible that overdose in the unborn child may have caused her hearing loss. We strongly believe she was hearing in utero but was born without functioning hair cells in her cochlea, profoundly deaf.
I am now about 5 wks pregnant and taking only Pepcid for acid reflux. If hearburn gets bad I drink a glass of milk or eat some yogurt or pudding, something to coat my esophagus.

This is also why I strongly urge everyone, even without family history of hearing loss, get a Universal Newborn Hearing Screen.
I believe it's free in every state.
