I was researching rabies vax laws in my county and it says that you are required to buy a pet license for your pet every year. If you are late, you pay double!!!<br><br>
"1- Year License Fees<br>
License for altered dog: $15.00<br>
License for unaltered dog: $30.00<br>
License for altered cat: $10.00<br>
License for an unaltered cat: $20.00<br>
If owners fail to purchase a license within 30 days of obtaining a new animal or moving to Winnebago County, the pet owner will be charged double the pet license fee. If your pet is exempt from a rabies vaccination due to a health problem, a letter is required from your veterinarian stating why."<br><br>
I have NEVER seen this before! Does anyone have experience with this? I am not going to comply except for my dog who needs a rabies vax (I think she got the one year vax, and there are 3 year ones).

I have had to license my dogs everywhere but where I currently live in the sticks of NC. For some reason our county doesn't require it <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">:

Yes, where I live, the dog enumerator even goes door to door. He was just here a few weeks ago, actually.

Yep, here is NY as well.<br><br>
Just adopted a dog and had to get his rabies and prove he was "altered" (that term always cracks me up! How was he altered? Was the dog taking LSD?)

Our vet gives you a form to fill out and mail in when you go in for a rabies vaccine, they hand it to you and say that they are required by the city to give it to you. I have never registered my cats. here it's only $10 if they're neutered, and $2 every year after that as long as you aren't late. there's a $10 late fee

Dog licenses have been required in both the county I grew up in (Indiana) and the city where I currently reside (Virginia).<br><br>
The licensing procedure in both states basically verifies the rabies tag.
