I am using a diaper ointment by Hylands that I really like. However, it contains "petrolatum USP", which I am assuming is a relative of Vaseline. I thought I heard somewhere not to use Vaseline on babies, so I am wondering if it's OK for me to keep using the diaper ointment? What other ingredients in common diaper creams should I be wary of? Mineral oil I know is a no-no... thanks~

petrolatum (pĕtrəlā'təm) , colorless to yellowish-white hydrocarbon mixture obtained by fractional distillation of petroleum. In its jellylike semisolid form (known as petroleum jelly and also by several trade names) it is used in preparing medicinal ointments and for lubrication. As a nearly colorless, highly refined liquid known as liquid petrolatum, liquid paraffin, or mineral oil, it is used as a lubricant, as a laxative, and as a base for nasal sprays.

Have you tried Arbonne Baby Care products? They are really wonderful, naturally and botanically based, hypoallerginic to zero, NEVER any mineral oil or 'like' ingrediants, no animal byproducts, and NEVER tested on animals. I could go on and on.
This is the only brand I use for dd. I'll give an example of actual use...dd got her first diaper rash and I tried desitin, she screamed and I wiped it all off, I tried Aveeno, and she screamed some more...I than used Burt's Bees...that was MUCH better...but than I tried Arbonne...never a tear or whimper...from dd or me (I cried when I put stuff on her that hurt her like that...I'm a wuss for my kiddos)...you can check it out at http://www.arbonne.com If ur interested feel free to email/pm for more details...take care, c

We use Un-Petroleum Jelly instead of Vaseline (and other petrolatum products). It works exactly the same way, but it's made from vegetable oils instead of petroleum.

We use it several times a day as DD's diaper barrier cream, with no reactions. And she's never ever had a diaper rash.
