My chiropractor told me to come here and ask you mommas about this. I'm about 3 mths pregnant and have lost over 15 lbs. I'm tall and am a little under 125 lbs. I take half a zofran in the morning (they are almost $50 each after taxes) to get me to where I can keep down some liquids. I take morning sickness magic(b6 and ginger) when I can keep it down and it really helps(just not enough) I've taken unisom with the b6, But I've only kept it down 2 times in the last week. I'm really thirsty but I won't be able to drink and keep it down. It's like this every day when my meds wear off around 2 pm till 8 the next morn. I've eaten today and kept down 1 tea and 1 juice but I'm starting to get dehydrated I think. All ideas would be appreciated. I feel really bad. I thow up all day even with medicine.

Honey, do you have hyperemesis gravidarum? Your post reads like text book symptoms. I have it. It sucks.

www.hyperemesis.org

Usually it should get better around week 20, but that's not always the case for everyone. You should already have a diagnosis of HG if you're on zofran.

It's not uncommon to lose that much weight. You're dehydrated and malnourished. And you're not alone. This is my 3rd pregnancy with it.

Yes. DO NOT mess with this, it can be really bad for both you & baby if it is not properly treated. You need a dr. who is able to fight your insurance like crazy for the zofran if that is what works.

Even WITH zofran every 6 hours, my baby only made it to 32 weeks, and I never gained any weight. (The good news is I was still able to have a great natural birth, and breastfeed.) I hate to think of what would have happened without that stuff. I probably wouldn't be here writing this message.

Stuff you can try in the mean time: ginger, benadryl, and the non-drowsy motion sickness (i.e. dramamine non-drowsy type) medicine all have worked for some people.

Thank you all for responding. I interviewed? 2 homebirth midwives today and they suggested mj. I talked to another midwife today and she said that she can work with my insurance to get them to pay for some of it so that I can take more a day and to take a unisom with a b vitamin before bed. I'll let you know if I find something that works and yes I have hg. This is my 3rd time with it, but it is worse than I thought possible. I'm wondering if I might have to go with a dr instead of a mw if this keeps up. I'm sorry that you moms have gone through this-- though selfishly it helps to know that I'm not alone. Thanks

I had hyperemesis with my first two. I didn't have any kind of meds for it then - wish I did! I lost at least 15 pounds with each too.

With my third I was sick but no hg. It was an awful sick though. With this one I am SO SICK. I don't have hg, but it's almost as bad. It's like the feeling of hg, without the vomitting.

NO ONE understands except us who have it or have been through it. It's so devastating. All day and night, never ending.

I do think my diet (high protein) has helped this time. I just started Wild Yam tincture. I take Sepia for nausea too. Anything to help.

I want you to get some help with this. IV fluids would make me feel SO good for a few days when I had hg. Good luck!

i used mj with my last pregnancy and it really helped, but with this pregnancy it didnt help. i lost 40 lbs in two months. it was really horrible. i had to see a specialist and get the remeron, and many iv treatments and er visits. i was so scared my throat was going to blow out. i know my teeth are RUINED from the hg.

dont hesitate going to a doctor for treatment-you can go to the site www.helpher.org that is a hg site and forum and there are lsits of doctors that are experienced with hg and sympathetic to our needs.

big hugs mama!
