Hi, I am pregnant with my second child, and have had to take Phenergan (starting yesterday) to stop from constantly vomiting (I have bouts of this on and off, and I am 15 and half weeks!). I have literally tried every remedy out there. I'm not kidding. The first three months, regular acupunture, every homeopathic remedy for nausea plus gingerroot, dancing a a circle and patting my head.

I went ahead with Phenergan because the next step was going to the ER for an IV (I couldn't even keep water down). Now, I have read that Phenergan is compatible with breastfeeding, but you should limit it to one dose (I have already taken two and will probably need more to get my strength back), and you should "watch the infant for sleepiness." Well, my DS is not an infant. He is a strapping 3 yo, 30lb toddler and he really only nurses 2-3 times per day. He nursed for a long time yesterday before I took the drug (about 9 pm), and has not nursed since then.

Of course, all the research I do is either for infants, or else tells me not to breastfeed. So, I thought this was a better place to ask.

Anyone have experience with this? Thanks so much!

Thanks Sonja! I was also able to locate some good info on Dr. Hale's site. He would not recommend Phenergan for a BF mother of a neonate or a young infant who has breathing apnea problems, but other than that, he says it is fine. And I would think even moreso for a 3 yo!

So, I am pretty happy about that. I am so sorry that you suffer with migraines. I have only had them from time to time, and they are HORRIBLE. I had them during this last bout this weekend, and it is so hard.

Thanks so much for your reply!

I did get sick with my 2nd baby but not consistently as bad as you described (only a few times that bad). I was still nursing my daughter (2 1/2 at the time) and my doctor gave me injections of various B vitamins. It really helped me a lot. You said that you've tried many treatments, but in case you hadn't tried that, it might help you avoid the drugs. (I don't know the specific ones vitamins, so let me know if you're interested.)
