Philly- Please Touch Museum?

Okay, I'm planning on going down to Philly tomorrow, with my own kids (4, 2, and 2) and a friend's child (7), and I'm trying to decide between this museum and the Franklin Institute. My main question, if anybody has been there, is whether the Please Touch Museum will be too babyish for a 7 year old. Is this mainly a toddler place, or will older kids get something out of it? And if we opt for the Franklin Institute (my preference, just from the $$$ aspect) will my 4 year old get anything out of it, or is it mainly just for older kids? (I'm not worried about the toddlers-- they'll enjoy gazing around no matter where we go.)

What do you think? We have never been to either place; we mostly go to the zoo where we're members, or to the Academy of Natural Sciences, but the kids are bored with that.

I haven't been to either place in years. I will say though that I think The Franklin (as it's now called) would be more for older children. I haven't been to the Please Touch since they moved but I don't think it'd be bad for the oldest.

Sounds like you're pretty experienced w/ all the children in the city. If it were me, I think I'd rather deal w/ a bit bored older child at the Please Touch than the bored little ones at the Franklin.

Have a fun, safe trip!

THe older kids seem to like the opportunity to do more babyish type things whenever they get a chance to anyway so I would to go Please Touch. Besides, the aquarium is right there as well.

What aquarium? There isn't an aquarium in philly.

Anyway, we were just at the please touch museum last week, and recently at the franklin institute as well. My kids like both about equally. Please touch IS expensive!

That said, I think the 7yo would enjoy hisself at the PTM. It really is a lot of fun, and not too babyish, imo.
my kids are 7, 5 and 2, and they prefer the franklin over the please touch museum, as the PTM is often crowded and they have an opportunity to play with most of those sort of things at home. i think PTM is great for children from out of town, who are missing their toys and dress up and pretending that they left at home, but most of the kids we know aren't too excited about the PTM. we really love the franklin and the aquarium, especially if we take the ferry or the phlash.

have you been to the new please touch museum?

My 7 yo was bored of the old PTM but the new one looks like he'd have fun. The Aquarium is across the river in Camden. There is also a children's discovery museum nearby in NJ that my ds enjoys.
Ah see, the ptm and franklin institute and the zoo are all so close to me, but to get to the aquarium it is about an hour- completely across the city then fight bridge traffic. For us, the aquarium is a long trip, whereas the others are less than 20min, more of a neighborhood jaunt,
