I have never tried either, so I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried one or the other or both. How do they compare to Keifer? I like keifer, though I find it rather thick. I finally tossed out my grains because I think they got damaged beyond repair in the AZ heat. I wasted tons of raw milk and tried soaking them in yogurt and then letting them rest in water etc etc the milk always turned out yeasty and disgusting.
I'd like to try either Piima or Fil Mjolk for drinking, smoothies and for my son's raw milk formula, but for the life of me I can't find anything comparing and contrasting. TIA!

I thought piima and fil mjolk were different names for the same culture - could be wrong though. I have fil mjolk (that's what the person I got it from said it was, anyway), and love it. It's much less tart than kefir, and easier to culture because there's no straining involved. It gets just as thick IME, but the flavor is milder and the texture is smoother. I still make both. I don't know how it compares nutritionally, or if it has as wide a range of beneficial organisms as kefir. I just add a tiny touch of maple syrup to the fil mjolk and drink it. My 6-year-old son hasn't warmed up to it yet, he still likes kefir blended with fruit and maple syrup.

I don't know much about piima, but I LOVE fil mjolk. It has a mild sour flavor and it's very, very versatile.

I'm giving up kefir too. I just think it's nasty and no matter how hard I try to like, I still think it's nasty.

Snowbunny, adding vanilla and maybe a little honey may help. The vanilla helps balance out the tartness. I make my own vanilla extract which is so yummy to add to it! Also, we drink it in fruit shakes often - some bananas, kefir, sometimes canned coconut milk as well, and some berries OR orange juice concentrate. Those are some ideas to make it more palatable. It is just SO healthy, like taking a probiotic daily. Hope this helps! Don't give up!
