My MW calls it placenta brain, though I've also heard it called baby brain. I saw a thread on this a while back, the forgetfulness that can come with pregnancy. I've had quite a bit of it, some minor & amusing, some "um...I can't believe I forgot that. That's kind of alarming," like putting things on the stove and utterly forgetting about them until the pot nearly burns dry.

Well, I discovered something yesterday that I'd forgotten that was one of the "oh...that would have been better not to forget" category. We've had a couple of grain moths fluttering around our kitchen/apt for a few weeks, and I could NOT figure out where they were coming from. I figured it out yesterday, when I went to use my dehydrator, and discovered that I'd left an entire rack of pecans in there that I'd dehydrated a few weeks ago. I removed the lid of the dehydrator to find a tray of pecans, a few moths and a few moth cocoons. Can I just say: YUCK? I'd taken out all the others, and just...FORGOT to look in that rack somehow. Bleah! Well, they're all gone now.

Well, as I keep telling myself, the baby's worth it!

How has placenta-brain been affecting you?

Well, I think I have had "placenta brain" all of my life!! Although pregnancy on top of severe ADD can produce interesting results... I have on several occasions driven right past my own driveway! Literally. My husband says, "um, where are you going?"

General overall flakiness. Forgetting where I put something down five seconds ago. Walking out the door without one, two, or five crucial items. Dropping stuff! Inability to find efficient solution to problems that aren't that difficult. Etc.

Haha! These are great! I called someone "sweetie" by mistake the other day (similar to your "babe" thing, ScarletBegonias, only it wasn't a direct report, haha! How did your staff take that?).

I've come very close to getting on the wrong subway line - the one to go home - when I should be going somewhere else. But thankfully I've caught that every time (yes, the impulse strikes repeatedly). It's only a matter of time...

One of my friends told me that you actually end up smarter after pregnancy...can that be? I hope so. I'm sure you end up WISER, anyway. And with a lot of rubber bands around your wrist (to snap, to try to remind yourself of things when you're pregnant)!

When I was pregnant with my first, I forgot one of my prenatal appointments. Came straight home after work at the usual time to find a message from the midwife waiting for me. Only then did I clue in...

This time, I got my credit card statement and discovered I had paid it not once but *twice*. Guess it could be worse, like I forgot to pay altogether and would now be owing 20% interest on that balance
