Tossing it. I've never felt any need to even see my placenta after birth. It doesn't gross me out or anything, its just not important to me.

I'm going to try to eat some in berry smoothies (fresh, then frozen) for the first few days, and encapsulate the rest - this is, of course, if I can get DH to chop it up and dehydrate it for me without skeezing out! (And if I can stomach the smoothies - it might all end up dehydrated!)

Oh, and I thought we'd keep the cord and membranes in the freezer, to plant under a new tree or shrub in the spring.

If the ground weren't frozen, I'd plant it under a tree. But since it certainly will be, I'll probably just let my midwife do whatever she does with it. I'm assuming she'll dispose of it for us? I've never actually accomplished a HB before.

I'm a tosser. In my last DDC one lady did do some placenta prints for art work which were cool.

I don't know what my midwife will do with it, I would never eat it but I do wonder if a vegan could eat the placenta if they wanted, because its not from an animal, but its still meat. Sorry just a random thought.

I have never really thought about encapsulating it. I have two in my freezer already, I expect that's where this one will land too. I don't know that we will be living in this house forever, even though I did birth my children here. I figured that I can at least plant the placentas when/if we move. We did make placenta prints last time, they turned out ok.

One of my midwives is all certified to do encapsulation, so I'm going to do that.

As for vegans... isn't autocannibalism excluded from dietary regimens based on ethical concerns about animal treatment? I mean, there's no ethical question there. It is tissue from your body, so you're the one who can give yourself consent to consume it. Whether your body can handle it if you never eat meat, I have no idea.

Tossing it. I want to see it, but I wouldn't want to deal with it. DH would be beyond grossed out if I brought it home with us (and I'd hear no end of "you're not eating it!" comments) and I'd procrastinate too much to deal with it as far as planting goes. Really, I'm just interested in seeing it, then moving on (although I have my gallbladder in a jar in my closet
).

I think I've only seen one of my kids placentas so I do plan on getting a good look at it...I think it's a pretty freakin' amazing thing!

I want to do the placenta art thing that looks like a tree but after that...tossing I believe...unless the hubby wants to put it under a tree.

Your allowed to just toss it??? Where I am you have to bury it 6 feet under ground(we burned ds's placenta in a bon fire @ my grandmothers)..here if your caught tossing HUGE fine! and midwives aren't allowed to transfer it anywhere either

Im hoping(if I get me hb this time, which looks doubtful) to take it to my grandmas and burn it again... I can't wait either way just to see itagain, i thought the placenta was the coolest thing...I couldn't stop trying to get people to look at it the days after ds was born,"heres my son...wanna see his placenta????!!!!???"..i think 3 people out of prob 40 took me up on it! lol

i'd never even heard of saving a placenta (or eating or burying it) til recently and, after hearing 'bout it, must admit i don't feel very drawn to do any of it so will probably just toss it...

I'm gonna eat some of it, raw, asap and over the next several days. Don't need postpartum anxiety/OCD again, no way.

BTW, vegetarian animals eat their placentas all the time with no ill effect: cows, for example. Pretty much all of them but camels, I think?
