So I had my OB appt today and he mentioned that on my ultrasound a couple weeks ago they saw some kind of "shadow" on my placenta and he wants me to have another ultrasound in 3 weeks. He said he wasn't worried about it and that he expects they won't find anything there on the next one, but now I AM worried! He said the baby looks great and that it is growing well and my uterus is measuring well... but what the heck could that placenta thing be? I thought about googling it but I know it will just freak me out more if I do. Anyone have anything like this before?

Hmm...no idea, but it seems to me that most of the questionable things at u/s turn out to be nothing. Not a comfort now, I know, but I'm sure it's a great sign that baby's fine

Did you ask your OB ??
Maybe your were to shocked/afraid to ask him when he told you that but why don't you just grab your phone and call him ? (or make your husband call him)
I think he will be able to tell you what he meant, don't you think ?

I'm sure it is nothing but I can imagine how an awful sensation that must be...
for you

I'm mostly curious why he didn't mention it at the time of the u/s and waited til now to bring it up?? that seems odd. (or maybe I misunderstood?)

I asked him in the office what it meant and he said he didn't know what it could be but he didn't think it was serious. I didn't have the u/s in his office, but at a different clinic where they do the ultrasounds. They didn't mention anything about it at the time of the u/s in fact it went rather quickly, the tech I had was pretty new though, I don't think she had been out of school long. He scheduled me for another u/s in 3 weeks (from the time of my last appointment) so I guess he must not really be too worried about it. I tried googling it and didn't come up with much. A lot of times when they talk about shadows on ultrasounds they mean actual imaging shadows (like from the baby being in the way or from some refraction of the image or something). I am just praying that everything looks ok on the next u/s.
