thankyou to all who responded to my post about being at whit's end with dd. i'm still struggling, but i'm finding that she mostly just needs my attention...and in the wake of our recent tragedy, i haven't been giving her what she needs. i'm working harder on that now.

anyway, i thought i'd let y'all know that i've checked out the site you recommended, www.playfulparenting.com and i'm intrigued and so i asked the author if he'd be interested in hosting a chat at my site, mommychats.com and he agreed!! so he's going to be hosting the chat on july 1, 5-7pm pacific, 6-8pm mountain, 7-9pm central, 8-10pm eastern. i hope its ok to post this here...i didn't even know about this guy til y'all recommended him so i figured you deserved to know about this chat! join the egroup through the website to get email reminders about this chat.

i'm really looking forward to talking to this guy...i think i need his book!

YAHOOOO! Thank you for posting this! I'm definitely interested in chatting with Dr. Cohen. His book has lended me many wonderful insights and ideas. Sheesh, it seems almost strange to me that by simply playing with your child and letting them take the lead in play (it is their MO of course), you can solve so many issues and help them and yourself through so much! I have always been good about playing with DS, but Dr. Cohen helped me to realize that play was just one more place to "follow a child's cues" and let learning/healing happen--for child and parent!

The book is excellent btw--HIGHLY recommend it to anyone parent anywhere. It's a quick read. I still grab it off the shelf often and brush up! Wish I had gone out and bought it much sooner that I did. I haven't visited the website... maybe I'll pop in and take a look around!

Very cool! I'm glad the suggestion was helpful. I'm still reading the book and have to recommend it even more strongly than I did in the original post. My dd is still a little young for a lot of his techniques, but I feel like I'm much better armed to deal with things as they come up since I'm reading this book. I'm marking my calendar for the chat sessions!

And another yay for you for working so hard to recognize and heal how your dd is hurting from the recent events in your life. I think that you are an awesome mama!
