I am looking for your advice/experience with cloth diapers - I really want to use them with this babe - I will probably not be going back to work, which was what required me to use disposables with my other girls. There are so many kinds - which ones have you used/liked? How should I get started? What are some good sites ?
Thanks so much!
I think if you look through the older pages in our Due Date Club you'll find a couple threads on this topic. And, don't forget there's a whole cloth diapering forum at Mothering!

Personally, I prefer prefolds secured with a snappi and covers. Easiest and cheapest and make for a uniform stash so you're not having to match up diapers, liners, doublers, and stuffers every time you do laundry.

im doing prefolds with snappis (which i havn't used before) and wool covers that ive made or bought..and fitteds.. i have a bunch of different ones..but since i havn't used fitteds on a newborn, im not sure what will be the best. when elwynn was tiny we used prefolds with bummis super whisper wrap covers (PUL)

the ones that ive heard are best are NB mutts (they have an umbilical snap down) i have 7..they are fancy though, so kinda expensive new..i got mine cheap from the TP..

Get over to the diapering board! Lots of experienced mamas to offer advice! Also check the diaper reviews, that will help too.

We started CDing when Ben was 15 mos, so I have never CD'd a newborn. I have decided to go with prefolds since they are cheap. I have around 30 or so infant prefolds, 3 snappis and a few covers (some proraps, 2 wool covers and a fleece cover).

I also have collected 12 kissaluvs sz 1. I didnt bother with the Sz 0's since I have big babies and figure we can use the prefolds til the kissaluvs fit. I liked those a lot when DS was in dipes, since they stretch and fit across a variety of stages (short & chubby, tall & thinner). I got a 5 pack new as a gift and bought 7 of them used from a friend for cheap. Otherwise I could not afford 12.

I also have around 2 dozen wipes. Some MOE wipes I had on hand from when I sold their stuff and I sewed up a dozen more, using terry on one side, flannel on the other. It was pretty easy, I just turned and topstitched and didnt really care if they were all the same size, etc.

Once the babe is in a medium size, and becomes more sqirrelly, I plan to sew up some pocket dipes, my fave for diapering a toddler. Quick, easy and keeps 'em dry. But I really didnt want to spend the money on them for the babe stage when they tend to lay still long enough to do the extra few steps of a prefold & cover. And I can use the infant prefolds as stuffers for the pocket dipes.

I would not mind more wool covers, as I really would prefer to use it exclusively. But other than that, I think I am going to try to stick with simple and cheap!

You'll learn more than you ever wanted to know on the Diapering forum! I just wanted to put in another good word for prefolds. I like just folding them and putting them in a wrap cover better than using a Snappi. (I tried Bummis and Prowraps covers and liked the Bummis better.) I guess just folding and laying in the wrap doesn't work as well if your baby has lots of big messy poops, but that wasn't a problem with my DD. (She was a once every 5-7 days pooper, and after she was 2 months old I caught almost all her poops in the toilet anyway. Yay, EC!)

We have some prefolds, some kissaluvs size 0 and size 1 (since we haven't a clue how big he's going to be on arrival) and some bummi and prorap covers in sizes NB and Small. I picked the combo of kissaluvs, covers and prefolds hoping they'd be kind of flexible, and hearing that the kissluvs + covers were good for leak control. I figure that should cover the beginning and hopefully by the time he starts to outgrow those I'll have enough experience under my belt to know what I want to try next!
