I had posted about Ds's fever and then earache (earache since last Wed night - so now 5 days) I had been giving him children's motrin 2-3x a day when he would get whiney/cry from discomfort - and tonight he's saying he also has a stomachache. I put him to bed whimpering and without motrin - I"m now getting paranoid that he's had enough. It could be nasal drainage that's upsetting his tummy - or it could be too much ibruprophen - right? Maybe I should just call the dr tomorrow. It also dawned on me tonight that I can't remember the last time ds had a bowel movement. Dh can't remember either. Constipation is one of the possible side effects of motrin. (he said it's his tummy that hurts though, not his intestines)

Anyway, this is making me crazy. Should I call the dr? From what I've read, earaches should clear up on their own - but how long does it take?!

I"m afraid that this is going to be a horrible night.

How old is your son?

I don't think this is something to call the doctor about. It would be hard for the doctor to diagnose anything over the phone. The doctor can't check your son's ears and wouldn't prescribe antibiotics without checking the ears. There are many things that cause belly pain and the doctor couldn't check that on the phone.

If your son gets bad enough you should take him to an urgent care center or emergency department. The urgent care center near where I live stays open until midnight.

Some things to consider - Tylenol for pain, nasal saline, humidifier, very warm shower, stool softener, warm rice sock on tummy, apple juice, high fiber foods.

It doesn't have to be a horrible night. If your child is old enough you could watch DVDs on TV or TV shows on your computer. Sick kids sometimes fall asleep easier on the couch or in a chair than laying sick in their beds.
