I have had a bothersome but low grade UTI since Tues (5 days) I have been drinking tons of water, taking cranberry and hoping it will go away. I have been trying to do a healing gut type diet for me and my dd for 6 months and don't want to mess it all up with antibiotics but I can't live with this UTI forever either.

2 questions-

1. anything else I can do?

Echinacea or something?

I took Uva Ursi but it is really contraindicated for nursing and I don't want to mess around with that.

2. If I was to resort to abx- is there any that are better or worse for you as far as yeast /gut stuff goes?

Also- will one round of abx erase the months of work I've been doing? (No dairy, gluten, beer, sugar etc etc etc!!!)

I am feeling so down about this.

The only thing that has worked for me is Mannose. I take the U. T. Vibrance Crisis Intervention Formula that they sell in Whole Foods. It's pricey but it gets rid of the infection like nothing else can, and I have had more than 10 UTIs.

P.S. It only works on e. coli infections, so if you don't start to feel better after a few days then you may need antibiotics.

I second the D"mannose -has worked for me and numerous friends. Just suggested it to my mothers friend who has had chronic UT

infections for years. The Dr said there was nothing they could do for her. After a week in D'mannose she says her mom is 95% better.

Here is a good link. I just used the Solgar brand D'mannose w cranactin-1000mg-very inexpensive and works awesome.

Good luck!

there are many great remedies for a UTI but cantharis is a good one for a low grade issue that is dragging. that and nat phos or nat mur cell salt (depends on the indications) helps a lot of people. all fine with nursing.

If you don't have relief from symptoms, please do consider antibiotics. And, no, none are better than others with regards to the gut. Eat yogurt if you can (probiotics are also good for the urinary system) or take probiotics. The bacteria from a bladder infection CAN (but won't necessarily) travel up the ureter into the kidney. If you urine turns brown, you have fever or chills please be seen ASAP.

Thanks! Yeah, don't worry I don't want a kidney infection! I've talked to my midwives practice 2x about htis and they are pretty mainstream for midwives. yesterday we left it at if it gets worse, we'll do abx.

i am happy to say I think it is almost completely better!

I think The D- Mannose is doing the trick.

Or the Catharis, goldenseal, echinacea, Vit C, cranberry, quercitin etc etc LOL
