Dd is 11 months old, 29-30 inches tall, 19-20 pounds. We've been using FBs since she was around 4 months and really loved them--I've been having a lot of problems with leaks lately, though. I've stripped the diapers and they still leak--I have to change every 2 hours at MOST, sometimes more often. We've tried some Happy Heinys (both prints and solids), and it's the same problem--worse, possibly, and these dipes are pretty new. I'm not sure if I'm just not caring for my dipes properly (they only get washed in Allen's) or if it's something about her shape--she's tall, but not hugely pudgy.<br><br>
I'm not sure if I should switch to Bum Genius 2.0s (which I could buy now, since they're one size) or ride out the leaks and just wait until she fits large FBs, on the grounds that it's probably just wear on my dipes rather than fit (but I'm not sure if that's true). I'd also consider doing all AIOs, if there's something that would not leak. I have to sell what I have to buy new dipes, so I can't just get everything all at once.<br><br>
Any suggestions?

Just one. Two inserts seems like it will make her dipe SO bulky. I see your point, though. The reason I thought that it was a problem with the dipes is that we only started having regular leaks a couple of months ago--although she is bigger, so maybe she's peeing more?

I would try wrapping a microfiber towel around my current insert. It absorbs the pee really quickly, cutting out the leaks!

<span>I am nothing close to a cd-ing pro, but I did use FB and HH only on my last dd. Like you, I found HH to leak more (mostly the prints, which I was forewarned about). But, I never had a problem with the FB. It doesn't sound like you're doing anything to damage them, so maybe it is simply a matter of using more inserts, or changing more frequently? Is it leaking with one wetting? We did not use the inserts that came with the diapers; we bought some hemp ones online. They are very trim and very absorbent. We never used 2 at a time, except for nighttime when dd would pee more than once before a change. I hope you figure it out!</span>

Where is she leaking from? If the insert is wet when she leaks it is likely an absorbancy thing, but if the insert is barely wet and she is soaked then that would suggest repelling. Did you strip the inserts too? If so, then I'd try adding a doubler or 2 inserts and see how that goes. Also, maybe the PUL needs to be resealed on hot in the dryer?<br><br>

I used hemp inserts with DD1 and it absorbed way to slowly for DD's massive pees, so I switched to other inserts that absorbed more quickly (I actually had a bunch of kissaluv contours and used those in my pockets - they worked great! Also nb prefolds). I still had leaks, but not so often. For me, I think it was just that DD would pee so much at a time it overwheled the absorbancy of the inserts...

Actually, I COULD use a little extra cash...<br><br>
The insert is wet and she's leaking around the leg holes, mostly in back. So it sounds like I need to boost my insert.<br><br>
Which possibility sounds best:<br>
*microfiber towel around current insert (where do I get those?)<br>
*infant prefold used as insert (actually, I already have a bunch of these, so that might be a good idea)<br>
*hemp<br><br>

You can get microfiber towels from automotive sections of most chain stores. I've heard Sam's club is a good place to get them cheap if you're buying a lot of them.

I have a super soaking dd and hemp doublers are my friends <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> . I add one into all my pockets and AIOs.<br><br>
I use ones that have come with my fitteds, but you can buy them lots of places. They are very trim--you wouldn't even know they are there.

I agree with the PP about the micro. I have some micro doublers that I got with some FBs that are great to use combined with a Joey Bunz. Gives just a little boost to the absorbancy without making it too bulky.<br><br>
As far as other pockets, I have had good luck with Snap Ez and Swaddlebees. I loved FBs for DS1, but once DS2 was out of mediums the large FBs fit him terribly and we had to make a switch.

I think a hemp insert with either a MF insert laid on top (inside the pocket of course) or a MF towel wrapped around it. I find that hemp absorbs a lot but it doesn't suck up the pee fast enough so the MF is good for that. Also hemp is pretty trim so if you had a hemp insert and a MF insert inside, it shouldn't be terribly bulky. A night, I'd probably use a hemp pf with a MF insert or towel. FB's don't fit my son well....he's 18 lbs or so and still wears a size small on the smallest settings in the one we have and it leaks on us quite a bit...but I think it's a fit issue with us because the inserts aren't even that wet when it happens....he's a slender boy and we have MUCH better luck with our BG 2.0 OS pockets (fleece inners) and our Haute pockets (OS velcro ones). I have a GAD pocket dipe as well that I like....it's side snapping which usually doesn't work well on my son but it's super trim and very nice....but overall I prefer my BG's if I'm using a pocket.....I never get leaks and they fit great.

I think it's probably all about finding the right combo of inserts. If we're just hanging out at home and I know we can do frequent changes ds does fine with just a microfiber insert in his picket dipes...however if we're gonna be running around or at a playdate and he'll go longer btwn. changes I throw a a hemp doubler in the pocket with the microfiber one...<br><br>
We have some haute pockets and the inserts are actually two pieces that snap together and even with both of those and a hemparooz insert the dipe isn't too bulky...although I do kinda wanna buy that t-shirt that says "does this diaper make my butt look big?" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>

Have you seen the GAD inserts that have the extra layers? I find these are great, without adding too much bulk and very absorbant.

I love my Babykicks Joeybunz....they fit in the FBs really well, and they extend all the way from front to back to help prevent leaks.. I use one of those during the day (2 at night), or a Cottontail Baby's microfiber (which are priced very fairly in my opinion).

I'd only be able to go 2 hrs max w/ only one insert w my dd too. If we're leaving the house, we always use 2 medium swaddlebees inserts & never have any leaks
