Twice this afternoon I've nursed my 13 mo old dd and both times right after she got a welps on her face! They start out looking like a bug bite, then get flat but very red, then sort of fade away - all over the course of a few hours. Any ideas? The ped says give her benedril but I don't want to! What would you do?

That makes sense b/c her nails needed clipping, but they were very large welts (my dh just told me it's welt, not welp).

Is it hot where you are? It's very hot here, and DD sometimes gets little bumps in her face from the heat. My breast and her face together get quite sweaty, and for long nursings it can create a mild heat rash.

If they are going away on their own and not bothering her, I wouldn't bother with any medication.

My 15 month old gets the heat type stuff like Piglet says once in awhile. I bet that's it.

Have you eaten anything different in the past few days? If the welts happen shortly after nursing it may be a reaction something you ate. Just a thought

It's apparently going around here. Rash, fever, vomiting. She was a sick little girl last night. She's fine today, just very tired.
