I am really annoyed. My dp is in an accelerated nursing program and is currently doing his Community Health Clinicals.....at the Vaccine Clinic he observed today-- the nurse in charge told the group of nursing students that the amount of Aluminum in the vaccines was less than the amount babies got in breast milk!! This can not be true can it?

I have done some research on vaccines and have NEVER heard this "fact"....is this true?

I am looking for any links to info on this that there are. I am wondering where this nurse got this kind of information..or if she just made it up for fun.

It makes me sad that an entire nursing school group is learning these kinds of things...if it is not true..luckily my dp is a pretty smart guy and found this a bit....off...

I would love to have some facts to send him back with .

IMO, the validity of her "fact" is irrelevant.

She's comparing INGESTED Al and INJECTED Al in the same breath.

They are two different ballgames. Any nurse worth their salt knows this.

DP said that she was saying a lot of things that were not very intelligent.....or very responsible as a medical professional dealing with patients, not to mention teaching others to deal with patients. Every time dp asked her a question about something she said --she just said something like "its policy"...lovely.

The stickiness of it (seems to me) is that the individual vaxes may have "low doses" of aluminum. However, a lot of shots are combo shots and they do not take into consideration the combination of the doses of these things (thimerasol and aluminum, for example) when combined with other products. So, while the individual shots may have "less than what is in a mother's milk" the combination shots can actually have lots more than what is considered "safe" for injection at one point in time.

Dr. Sears talks about this in the last Mothering magazine (the article about aluminum). It was pretty shocking.

But, I would (personally) slip some papers about the amount of aluminum found in vaccines and the EPA guidelines of what is considered safe for humans. Looking at that, you'll usually find that the vaccines given to newborns are giving them an amount that is considered safe for a baby 8 months older.

Yes, I agree. I recently read the Dr. Sears Vaccine Book and some of the vaccines included well over the dose that was considered safe. This is what made me so worried when this came up today. Maybe I just don't realize how much aluminum is in breast milk. I am trying to do some google searches, because now I am extremely curious!

I highly recommend you get the fulltext of that study if you can.

It was only looking at two out of 4 aluminum adjuvanted vaccines babies get, too. And with just those two, the minimum risk level was periodically exceeded.

Can't you also reduce the amt of aluminum in your milk by using deodorant (not antiperspirant--which I admit I use), and consuming foods that don't contain aluminum, food dyes, etc.?

People who argue that vaxes are safe because there are chemicals in our foods are missing out on the fact that you can reduce chemical exposure in other ways by living more naturally.

i agree with the PP-the amt of aluminum in all the shots put together is scary...that dr sears article in the last issue of Mothering was very interesting...you might check it out if you haven't already! good luck!

I actually quit using AP. I found out that using AP can actually cause lymphatic drainage problems (which I've been having an issue with). But, I agree...I don't eat fish that has high concentrations of mercury/aluminum. We don't use aluminum to store our food...we are very conscious of the food/health choices we make. I would venture a guess to say that MY milk has less aluminum than any vaccine does...but that doesn't mean that it is necessarily true for others.

But, the blanket statement that there is less aluminum in vaxes than mother's milk (in general) is erroneous and disappointing.

Could your dp contact the nurse who said it and ask where her info comes from? He could say that someone had asked about it and he just wanted to be able to give them a source.

I'm interested, because the Al freaks me out and it's partly keeping me from vaxing.

When I said something to my GP about Al in vaxes, she said, "Oh, is there?" and had to get the package insert and look. "Well, yes there is," was her conclusion. "I'm really not qualified to comment on it," she said. Made me feel REALLY confident! lol

I actually just emailed the Dr Bob Sears vaccine blog thing and asked if he could speak to this question at all, given that Al seems to be a pet issue for him. It says they don't reply to individual inquiries, but do post answers to FAQs when appropriate. Who knows.

From what he told me the nurse didn't seem able to give more info on anything she said. He said he asked several questions and for more info with no luck. She just kind of put him off.

I think it would be wonderful if the question was addressed on the Sears blog! I REALLY hope that it gets addressed!!!

I am not suprised that your GP didn't know....I really LOVE our Dr., but even she had some misinformation that I only found out about after reading the Dr. Sears Vaccine book. I am so glad that I read that book before making the decisions I was trying to make at the time.
