Please.

Emotions are running high. The election is less than two weeks away, and everyone has a stake in it. The people who visit the W&P forum really care. That's why we get a little too... passionate.

I'm sure things have been said that shouldn't have been, and in ways they shouldn't have been.

But please don't take away such a vibrant discussion forum at such a very, very important and emotionally intense time. Please reconsider.

Soon, it will be reopened soon.

And it is a big problem. A huge one. Abimommy, annakiss and I have been running ourselves ragged. And nothing we do has been able to make it slow down.

Cynthia's post really explains what needs to happen. And I know emotions run high, mine do too, but that is not an excuse for what amounts to verbal abuse occuring there.

So bear with us a little longer, and it should be open later today.

Interesting timing.

Isn't quoting other people's words against the rules? Didn't Cynthia do so in her sticky?

Just curious thoughts that passed through my mind; not trying to challenge authority.

I'm sure both the volume of the posting and the intensity of the posts themselves will cool down in a couple of weeks.

I have been advising that folks use the "!" feature and the ignore feature. I had not used the ignore feature...only once in the past...but now I have 3 people on my ignore list and I have lowered my blood pressure considerably.

I also have tried to turn things more positive, outlook-wise within the liberal thread. Not saying I have any power, but I do think that if my original suggestions are followed, then folks will find less reason to rise to bait and there will be less baiting too.

So let's recap: I have advised generous and prompt use of both the "!" and ignore features in order to mitigate the "take it into our own hands" response which leads to alot of nasty stuff. AND in fact, of very lately, I have noticed alot less of the nasty stuff going on.

There is one specific poster in W&P who is still antagonizing and still trying to get such a rise out of people...which is why I keep advising use of ignore! And among the libs there is a concerted effort to discourage rising to that particular bait, very specifically.

We ARE trying and if we fall short that is because some folks, and NOT the majority of libs either, take their free will very seriously. We really are trying to keep cooler especially now. I thought we were making true progress in the last day or two.

I have made reference here of efforts appearing in the lib thread itself. I realize that I may be in violation of a rule, but I do think there should be a full accounting, so I am describing my own actions in context. In doing so, I have to make certain references.

Sorry if that offends anyone.

Truly and sincerely trying to help the situation...Joyce in the mts.

Joyce - well said. Better than I could have said it cuz right now I am a little ticked off. I know that mdc isn't a country, however I don't think you are doing a service to us to have a war and politcs forum. You are doing a service to mdc. How can one parent in our currrent climate with out taking their political beleifs into consideration? Its just not possible for many people. I hope that you will re open this forum. A lot of people have but months of work into posting positive information to help parents be informed of the things going on in our world. To shut it down 2 weeks before elections is kind of silly.

If I read the post by Cynthia correctly this is a temporary shut-down for today only in order for pruning of antagonistic threads and posts to be pruned. Is it really that constricting to not have the forum for a few hours?

We certainly can understand taking a few hours to adjust and do housecleaning, rearrange the furniture and take out the trash. I don't believe that anyone in this thread so far has expressed an issue with that.

Just because others have posted concerns and observations here, doesn't mean everyone is freaking out. I think legitimate points of interest are being voiced.

Could be simple as that. Couldn't it?

Well the thread was started with a fervent request to reopen the forum. It doesn't seem like that was in doubt. There are others questioning the timing and others saying they're ticked off about it being closed. It seems as though those people are either unaware that this is a temporary closure. Why beg for the forum to be reopened if it's been stated from the beginning that it is going to be reopened? Why speculate about the timing as though your rights are being infringed on when you're only talking about a brief closure. It just seems like a bit of an overreaction IMHO. I haven't been here long so I'm probably missing a lot of history here but Cynthia's post seemed totally reasonable to me some of the drama here just seems a bit over the top.

I guess your erroneous interpretation of my posts, precludes what I actually meant.

"WHy speculate about the timing as though your rights are being infringed on when you're only talking about a brief closure."

Ummm sorry, but you are mistaken. I never said a word about my rights being usurped or being at risk at all in either post, to my knowledge. Did I? Read 'em again cuz I might have missed something.

I trust CM to respond to folks and to me, or whatever, as appropriate. After all, I think it was to Administration that this thread was originally directed.

Can you tell me where the announcement is?

I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't post to a thread and kept hitting refresh thinking it was a download problem. I didn't see a sticky either....

I do agree with JITM that the liberals on here have been trying hard. I for one have edited a post that was out of line - although funny if I do say so myself - (sorry AdinaL) and have stopped responding to threads that I have nothing nice to say on. We are making progress, see lighthearted sex thread for an example.

I am sorry that things get nasty and that we keep you on the defensive. I hope that someday this country and all the mamas in it will be united and not in opposition. Going to put my nose back in the corner....

And I guess your erroneous interpretation of my post meant you assumed that although I in no way indicated that I was referring to your post specifically that yours could be the only post that I meant. In all honesty it did not even register that you had posted a short post asking about timing. I did read your longer post and thought it was very reasonable and well thought out. Other posts mention the timing not just yours alone. If I quote your post and misinterpret you please feel free to call me on it. If I do not single out a post or a poster it might lead to more constructive conversation if you don't assume that I mean you and try to shove words down my throat. Out of curiosity is this sort of response what you meant about trying so hard to be non-inflammatory?

As you said the thread is in administration so I fail to see why it would be so offensive for me to come in and say I don't have a problem with a temporary closure which was very clearly explained by the adminstration. The sky is not falling as far as I can tell and I wanted to express that.

I do realize that this is a temporary shut down and I did at the time of my post. I was in a rather bad mood when I posted earlier.

My thoughts are this - lately we have lost many great members here at mdc and especially in W&P. I worry that little things like this may affect some people in a negative way and add to frustrations which may in turn push more people away from here. Does that make any sense? I dunno. But those are my thoughts about it.

Wasabi - no the sky is not falling because of this one instance but it could lead to that for others.

Wasabi--you're right, it was probably a little dramatic on my part. I guess I'm remembering the times MDC was closed for "brief periods" that ended up being months... lol... so I was hoping the same thing didn't happen to the W&P forum. Just feeling a little tense about the upcoming election, that's all. Also, I was at work, and frankly didn't read Cynthia's post thoroughly enough. My mistake. I will trust that the forum will be up and running ASAP (perhaps it is already? I haven't checked) and that everyone, liberals and crazy people alike (KIDDING) will behave themselves.
