Hi,

I now live in Toms River, NJ. We are going to move in a year or two. I want this move to be a thoughtful one. The one to here was not too thoughtful, just affordable.

Please tell me if you love your NJ town

Here are the qualities we want in our next town:
Green Schools/safe schools/progressive schools/
: lunch programs
Crunchy neighbors
quaint/rolling hills/trees
farmer's market,
: grocery
affordable
:

picturesque
sense of community

Thank you for any help!

We're thinking of moving too. Well, you know where I live, and I don't suggest it

I'm curious to read other people's replies. Were you considering a move north or south?

Hi,

Can't wait to see you and Lena on Wed. Please please please please come to Numa's.

Actually I think we are going to move to Ithaca, NY. Not very soon, but hopefully in the next two years. It is just too expensive here and "they" keep cutting down all the trees and we have just "had it." We went on our honeymoon to Ithaca and Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen and we loved it. They are listed as one of the "greenest" towns in America and they have a progressive population with lots of vegetarian restaurants and a famous Farmers Market. The houses are SO MUCH LESS than anything here in NJ and you also can get land with it! Beautiful homes on 1 acre of wooded land was not un-common on realtor.com. Natural water falls and nature preserves are common there. I would feel better raising Ivan in that kind of community and I would feel better about sending him to school there too.

Wanna come?

I wanna go to Ithaca too! *wistful sigh*

The one good thing I can say about NEPA is that it's affordable. That's because no one would actually pay serious money to live here.

As far as NJ towns, my DH is pretty familiar with all the little ones around New Brunswick. We go down there for holidays and stuff but I can barely find my way on and off 78, nevermind get a feel for the area. Want me to send him this way or have him drop you an email?

That would be great. I love that area. My second choice for relocation is the Princeton, NJ area. It is just so expensive. Houses on realtor.com start at like $400,000! We can get so much more for our money in Ithaca and it is so pretty and crunchy

You should come check out Teaneck. There is a great vegan restraunt called "Veggi Heaven." The schools are quite good. It is generally crunchy and diverse. It is a "Tree City USA." We have a farmers market on thursdays in the growing season.

Teaneck was the only town ever to volunterily implement bussing to desegregate schools (these days the town is so generally diverse it is a moot issue.) Teaneck is also the second holiest city in the western hemisphere for the Baha'i faith.

As for affordable it depends on what you are comparing it to. It's much cheaper than Ridgewood and Tenafly. However my sister in PA got 4 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths with a deck and room for a pool for $70,000 less than our 2 bedroom 1 bath with a small swingset.

Check out the towns website

Thanks eepster! I sure will.
Whatever you do, don't move to our town (Pemberton Twp.)
. We can't wait to get out of here.

Tabernacle is very cool. Good house prices, great schools, in the woods (spacious lots). We want to move either to there or Sprinfield Twp.. Both are in Burlington County.

Looks like it is SW from Toms River. I will go take a look in Spring to get a good feel. Everything is so yucky in March. Even our pretty yard is too hideous to look at in March. I want a good impression of what a town will look like at peak.
