I began watching a friend's dd last week, and had been told she gets frequent diaper rashes... So I diligently changed her diaper, and didn't have a problem with the rash... Coincidentally, I also noticed that when I fed her oatmeal for breakfast (on two separate mornings) she developed red splotches around her mouth area... A day or so later she developed bumps in her diaper area. I mentioned it to the mom, but she dismissed it as being a diaper rash and not a food allergy (the bumps in diaper area)... and she wasn't concerned about the splotches around the mouth either...

I don't know how much info I need to share. But I dont' think it's a diaper rash. Her skin is perfectly white all around, except for these raised red bumps about the size of a teething tablet... At first there were just three, but it's been the weekend, and when she came back today it had spread all over down there. I don't know the correct terminology... but more upfront and not by her anus. Oh, and I should mention she is about 2 yo and her bm's aren't firm at all... very soft.

I am wondering if it might be an allergic thing, and it really urks me that the mom isn't concerned about it. "Just put cream on it" she says... So I"m trying to look into other options because it looks more problematic than a diaper rash... and if these happen all the time then I think that's an indicator that something is wrong... :

So my question... can a diaper rash come from out of nowhere and be just red bumps?? Has anyone seen anything like this, or can anyone point me in a direction where I can research this... perhaps a place where I can see pictures of "rashes" so I can get a better idea?? Or does anyone think I should I just drop it.

sounds like a contact dermatitis reaction on the face, so I'd be thinking allergy as well. unless there was fruit in the oatmeal or fruit juice.

some families get more of that hive type splotches with certian foods like strawberries, tomatoes etc.

As far as the diaper rash with bumps sounds like yeast.
I'd suggest to her to use vaginal yeast cream as any rash longer than a day or so will get cultivated with yeast anyonw.

I'd also guess the kid has a higher refined flour diet with juice fruit etc..?

she might also be allergic to the cream, you got to be careful using cream on open skin..

hmm she's 2 and still pooing soft, with rashes on her bum, not fun and hives, welts....no I think you should pursue it.
Do you have an allergist? holistic doctor? or you could tell her you will send the pictures to an allergist and get an opinion?

but I am defn thinking food sensitivity or allergy.

Thank you thank you thank you. I just started watching her last week, and the parenting differences are really rubbing me the wrong way... So I'm just generally irked... And it makes me sad that the girl has any discomfort and pain... I did ask if a doc had looked at the bumps, and had asked if she had considered it to be a yeast infection. She said it is the diaper rash she always has had. Poor child! I'm going to ask her again in the morning about the possibility of using a topical yeast treatment, or acidophilous...

I'm not really sure of the girl's diet... I know they are NOT health nuts. Everything is decided by what costs the least and the most convenient. Today I avoided all obvious wheat products and no cow's milk... I tried almond milk. And her bm was firmer... so maybe I"m onto something... She has been ff'd since she was about 2 mo old So I'm not ready to rule out an allergy... But because she's not my dd there's not much I can do.

At any rate, thanks for the feedback.

Are there any online resources for this kind of thing? I do think I will recommend that they take a picture and send it their doc.
